TODAY, WE CELEBRATE BRYAN ALEXANDER MENDOZA

Today, we’re celebrating more than a birthday.🎉 🎂

We’re celebrating a young athlete whose journey is deeply connected to the reason AB’Ed Legacy exists.

When Bryan arrived in Canada, soccer became more than a sport.

The ball became his refuge.
His companion.
And eventually, his way of believing in himself.

Bryan always knew he didn’t have the same natural gift his sister was blessed with. But instead of allowing that difference to define him, he discovered something that would become much more important:

He could work for what he wanted.

One day, he told his dad:

“I want to become a professional soccer player. And I know that if I want to reach that dream, I have to train.”

He understood something at a very young age.

Even if there wasn’t always enough time, money, or resources to make the journey easy, he could still take his ball, wake up, run, train, and do whatever was within his control to become better.

So he did.

His father started watching his routine, his discipline, and most importantly, his genuine desire to improve.

Weeks later, his father became his personal coach.

What started with a boy and a soccer ball slowly became a journey.

Bryan found a team that made him feel at home during the winter indoor season. He helped them become champions and finished the league with 32 goals, earning the league MVP.

Then came another opportunity.

He went through tryouts and found a club that would become another home. In his first season, he became a champion again and finished as the league’s top scorer with 41 goals.

But Bryan didn’t stop there.

He continued preparing throughout the winter, working toward earning his place in the LEAP High Performance Athlete Program at his high school.

And this season has taught him something that trophies and goals never could.

Resilience.

Injuries. Adversity. Frustration. Moments when the road didn’t look the way he imagined.

And yet, he kept going.

That is the other side of the story.

Not every player begins with the same natural gifts.
Not every journey looks the same.
And not every dream comes with an easy path.

But sometimes, the difference is what a player chooses to do with what they have.

Bryan, you have taught us that talent is not the only way forward.

You have taught us the value of discipline, perseverance, consistency, and trusting the process 🙌🏻 even when the results don’t come immediately.

And perhaps most importantly, you are one of the reasons AB’Ed Legacy exists.

Your desire to become better inspired your dad to start developing you differently. That journey eventually became a philosophy: understand the player, identify what they need, build with purpose, and never stop developing.

Today, we don’t know exactly where your soccer journey will take you.

But we do know this:

You have already become a different player from the boy who arrived in Canada with a ball and a dream.

And we are incredibly proud of how far you have come.

Happy 15th Birthday, Bryan “BAM - BAM! 💚⚽️

May God continue to guide your path, strengthen your character, protect you through every challenge, and give you the courage to keep pursuing the dream that started with a ball at your feet.

Keep believing.
Keep working.
Keep learning.
Keep building.

Your story is still being written.

And whatever the future holds, AB’Ed Legacy will always be proud of the player ⚽️ and even more proud of the young man — you are becoming.

Happy Birthday, Bryan.
Keep building your legacy. 🦅💛⚽️

Sigue construyendo tu legado. 🦅💛⚽️

SUNDAY REFLECTION | WHEN PLAYING TIME BECOMES A COMPETITION

September is here.

Tryouts are happening.

Players are changing clubs, joining new teams, meeting new coaches and stepping into new environments.
For many athletes, making the team feels like the goal.

But what happens after you make it?

Because in a competitive environment, being selected is not the finish line.

It’s the beginning of another challenge.

A player may have been one of the strongest on their previous team.

They may have started every game.

They may have been used to playing big minutes.

Then they enter a new environment and suddenly…

They’re on the bench.

And that’s where an important question begins:
“What do I do now?”
Do I blame the coach?
Do I blame the system?

Do I assume someone else is getting opportunities they don’t deserve?

Or do I ask myself:
“What can I do to earn the next opportunity?”

Because competitive soccer doesn’t promise minutes simply because a player made the roster.

And it shouldn’t automatically be about who pays more, who talks louder, or who believes they deserve more.

At a competitive level, the challenge is learning to earn trust.

Through training.
Through consistency.
Through attitude.
Through decision-making.
Through physical and technical development.
Through the ability to respond to coaching.

And sometimes…

through how a player responds when they don’t get what they want.

The bench can be uncomfortable.

But discomfort can teach a player something that training alone sometimes cannot.

It can reveal whether they are willing to work when nobody is watching.

Whether they can accept feedback without making excuses.

Whether they can stay committed when the reward isn’t immediate.

Whether they are prepared to compete for their next opportunity instead of expecting it.

And parents have an important role here too.

Because when a player comes home saying,
“Why am I not playing?”

the easiest response is to find someone to blame.

The more valuable response might be:

“What do you think you need to improve to earn more opportunities?”

That’s not accepting unfair treatment.

It’s teaching the athlete to take ownership of what they can control.

Because there is a difference between being entitled to an opportunity and being prepared to earn it.

And that difference becomes even more important as the level rises.

So this September, as players move into new teams and new competitive environments, perhaps the question isn’t:
“Did my child make the team?”

Perhaps the better question is:
“Is my child developing into the player this level requires?”

Because making the roster is one achievement.

Being ready to compete for your place is another.

¿O me pregunto:

What does a player really need beyond team training?

Not necessarily more training.
Better-targeted development.

Club environments are essential for competition, team tactics and preparing players to perform within a team.

But every athlete also has individual needs.

That’s where AB’Ed Legacy complements the club environment.

Through assessment, individual feedback and intentional development, we identify what each player needs to continue improving ⚽️ technically, physically, tactically and mentally.

Because development should not be based on assumptions.

It should be observed. Measured. Corrected. Tracked. And developed with purpose.

Our goal is simple:

Help players become better prepared to perform, compete and contribute within their club environment.

We believe strong players come from strong development environments 🤾‍♀️ and those environments are even stronger when coaches, clubs, athletes and development programs work together.

DOMINGO DE REFLEXIÓN | CÓMO PUEDEN LOS PADRES APOYAR EL DESARROLLO DE SUS HIJOS?

Septiembre trae nuevos equipos.

Nuevos entrenadores.
Nuevos compañeros.
Nuevas expectativas.

Y algunas veces no necesita otro análisis.

Necesita escuchar:

Necesita responsabilidad.
Pero también necesita apoyo.

Necesita aprender a manejar los errores.
No a tenerles miedo.
Necesita objetivos.

SUNDAY REFLECTION | HOW CAN PARENTS SUPPORT THEIR CHILD’S DEVELOPMENT?

September brings new teams.

New coaches.
New teammates.
New expectations.

And for many young players, tryout season can bring a lot of pressure.

As parents, it’s natural to want the best for our children.

We want them to succeed.
We want them to make the team.
We want them to get more playing time.
We want them to become better.

But sometimes, in trying to help, we can unintentionally make the process harder.

After a game, a player may already know what went wrong.

They may already be thinking about the missed opportunity, the bad pass, the mistake, or the moment they wish they could do again.
Sometimes they don’t need another analysis.
They need a parent who says:

“I’m proud of you. What did you learn today?”

Because development doesn’t happen only on the field.

It happens in the environment surrounding the player.

A young athlete needs coaching.
But they also need space to think.
They need accountability.
But they also need encouragement.
They need to learn how to handle mistakes.

Not to be afraid of making them.

They need goals.

But they also need to understand that their worth isn’t determined by a roster, a position, a goal, or playing time.

Especially during tryout season, one of the most valuable things a parent can teach their child is this:

Your job is not to control the outcome.
Your job is to prepare.
To work.
To listen.
To learn.
To respond.
And to keep growing.

A coach can guide the player.

A programme can provide the environment.

But the family environment can influence how that player responds to everything they experience.

So this Sunday, before asking:

“Did you make the team?”

Maybe ask:
“What did you learn about yourself today?”

Because sometimes the greatest support a parent can give isn’t pushing a player harder.

It’s helping them love the process enough to keep going.

At AB’Ed Legacy, development doesn’t stop when the session ends.

We take the time to observe, evaluate and track each player’s progress, providing individual feedback and a progress report for families.

Because real development requires more than training hard, it requires knowing where the player is, what they need, and where they’re going next.

We don’t train exercises. We develop players.
