🕯️ October 4th – Sisters in Spirit Day 🕯️

Today, we honour and remember the lives of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ people across Canada.

Sisters in Spirit Day is not only about remembrance, it is a call for awareness, justice, and change. Families, communities, and allies gather to stand in solidarity, to say the names of loved ones taken too soon, and to ensure their voices are never silenced.

This day reminds us of the ongoing crisis of violence faced by Indigenous women, girls, and 2SLGBTQ+ people, and the strength of the families who continue to fight for answers, healing, and safety for future generations.

Let’s walk together in love, awareness, and solidarity so that no sister, daughter, auntie, mother, or two-spirit relative is ever forgotten ❤️

Danelle & I are proud to share a preview of our first new ornament releasing at our 2025 Ornament Launch on October 17th!

Designed by Emilee Steffensen from Moonemis Cree-ations (who also created the land acknowledgement in our store), it grew out of a conversation we had with her this summer, and the excitement of designing an ornament that connected the recent patriotism to the history of these lands.

Her design was based on the idea of: “What does the maple leaf mean to me as an Indigenous person?”

It's beautiful, thoughtful, and rooted in reconciliation and growth. At launch, I’ll share her full write-up and what each part of the design represents, along with how Danelle turned it into an ornament.

Here's a quote from Emilee's write up:

"This design is something deeply personal; one that came from a place of cultural pride, connection, and creativity. At the heart of the image is the iconic maple leaf, a symbol widely recognized as representing “Canadian Made.” But to me, and to many others within Indigenous communities, supporting Canadian-made means much more than just a label; it means uplifting local makers, knowledge keepers, and traditions that are deeply rooted in our culture."

This ornament will be available on October 17th.

A portion of the proceeds will go toward supporting Indigenous initiatives across the province.

I got to spend my Truth and Reconciliation Day at the RCMP Heritage Centre, teaching to bead, meeting new people and witnessing the steps they’re taking toward reconciliation. It was truly amazing to see how they are teaching their cadets about the history of residential schools and the ongoing impact of MMIW2S. To know that future generations of officers are learning this truth is powerful, it gives hope that real understanding and change can take root.

It was an honour to be there and I truly hope more schools and organizations will attend and learn here. Education is one of the strongest paths toward healing, and sharing these truths ensures that the voices of Survivors, families, and communities continue to be heard.

Today, orange shirts were seen everywhere, reminders that every child matters and that every story deserves to be honoured. While today is a special day set aside to reflect, listen, and come together, reconciliation should not be only one day a year. It’s a commitment we must live every day, in our schools, workplaces, and communities.

I left today feeling humbled, inspired, and hopeful for a future where truth leads to healing, and healing leads to real reconciliation. 🧡

Such an amazing opportunity thanks to RCMP Heritage Centre I will be in Regina for the week Sept 29-Oct 3 hosting a dreamcatcher workshop for students and then on the 30th, beading an orange shirt pin, this one is open to the public!

So if you’re looking for something to do on the 30th come out and hang with me and do some beading 🧡

I’ve never had an opportunity like this before, and I’m so excited to spend a whole week sharing truth, reconciliation, creativity, and culture. This week isn’t just about art, it’s about connection, healing, and learning together. Through art, beading, storytelling & dreamcatchers, I get to share pieces of my culture and create space where everyone feels welcome to take part in reconciliation in a hands-on way.

I’m truly honoured to be part of something so meaningful, and I can’t wait to meet new faces, and create beautiful memories 🧡
