Today’s summer project series post is for the colourwork knitters out there. Jade by Lisa Richardson is a generously sized wrap knit in Felted Tweed Colour which gives you a gently shifting gradient throughout a single ball. We’ve paired the Felted Tweed Colour 24 (Chestnut) with Felted Tweed Zinnia for a rich Autumnal pallet. The chart is easily memorized and knit in the round so it makes for more simplistic travel/beach/bonfire knitting. 🧶 Do you knit colourwork while on the go?

Next up in our summer knitting series is Hydrangea in Quail Studio Edition Three. Hydrangea is a simplistic tee with a touch of luxury. It is knit in Rowan Soft Yak DK and we’ve chosen the colour Heath because we LOVE the soft and smoky purple shade. 💜

Here is a summer project series idea with a spicy twist! This is Quartz by Lisa Richardson from Rowan Magazine 70. It is an elegant pullover with classic lines that is knit in the round and perfect for car or travel knitting. The spicy part comes after the sweater is knit. The detailing around the neck is embroidered on using DMC Diamant to add that touch of something special and a little bit of sparkle. ✨

Today’s summer projects series post is all about creating a fun statement piece for your wardrobe. The Riley Wrap by Martin Storey is published in “It’s A Wrap” and we feel it ticks all the boxes. It is a soft and luxurious wrap that can be low contrast and classic using similar shades or slightly varying colourways, or you can create a wild pop of colour like the one above with the Jelly and Turkish Plum colourways. Since the wrap is knit holding two strands of Kindsilk Haze together, you can really colour outside the box by using four colours total of Kidsilk haze or by throwing in a ball of Kidsilk Haze Colour. It is a choose-your-own-adventure with you in the driver’s seat. What colours would you knit yours in? Share below 👇

We’ve got another summer project suggestion for our garment knitters today. This is Mojave by Chloe Thurlow and it is from the “Rain Shadow” book. It is the perfect project for someone who’s keen to try their hand at intarsia but simplistic enough that it can be car knitting. We’ve picked some tranquil blues as our colourwork recommendation but there are so SO many lovely color combinations to choose from. Fasten the sides with some cherry wood buttons and you have a truly beautiful garment to enjoy.

This Summer Project Series suggestion is for our garment knitters. Smock by Martin Story in the “Softly Tailored” book is a timeless cardigan with classic lines and shaping. Worked mainly in stockinette, it would make wonderful travel knitting. We paired it with Pure Alpaca in Plum because we just can’t get enough of that rich colour.

Our summer project recommendation today is Refraction by Lisa Richardson. This show-stopper of a wrap is knit in six shades of Kidsilk Haze and only one colour is used per row. The pattern is simple enough to take with you on the road but the finished piece is stunning. We’ve lined up the recommended colours but you could very easily customize the colours to suit your wardrobe and aesthetic.

Next up on our Summer Projects series is the Santanyi wrap by Martin Storey in Creative Linen. It is a simplistic knit (perfect travel knitting) but the finished piece is stunning, especially when knit in the Raspberry colourway.

Next up in our Summer Project recommendations are these fingerless mitts by Lana Jois which can be found in the “Warm Hands” book by Kate Davies Designs. They feature texture, twisted stitches, a little bit of lace …. All of the fun things! We think these would look incredible knit up in our Point Prim Sock in the Caramel Apple colourway. 💚

We’re often asked in the shop for pattern and yarn recommendations. Customers fall in love with a particular yarn or colourway and would like a little help deciding what to make with it. Shawls are a fantastic way to experiment with colours and textures. Varpu by Veera Välimäki in her book “Stripes” is a generously sized shawl featuring two colour brioche and solid stripes. It pairs perfectly with Rowan Felted Tweed. With over 50 colours to choose from, you’re sure to strike on a winning combination that suits your style. What colours would you choose?
