Congratulations to Kathryn and Riley. Not only was your day so very special, it also created a donation toward breast cancer research. Together we can help beat this. Thank you so much.

What to Consider When Hiring a DJ
A professional DJ does more than play music. The right entertainer should operate responsibly, respect your guests and venue, and be prepared to keep your event running if equipment fails. Before you sign a contract, ask the following questions and request documentation where appropriate.
1. Are they properly licensed to operate a business?
Ask whether the DJ operates a registered business and can provide a written contract or invoice under the business name.
2. Are they properly licensed to play music at your venue?
Almost all will deny they need one, they will say that it’s the venues’ responsibly, wrong. Very wrong. Yes, the venue must pay SOCAN for music played at their venue but that is usually charged to you when renting the hall or venue. All D.J.s must be licensed as well and very very few are in our area are. I can show you how to check.
3. Are they using a commercially licensed (insured) and visibly branded vehicle to arrive at venues?
Most just use the family minivan if that.
4. Do they carry liability insurance, and can they provide a current certificate of insurance if the venue requests one?
Liability insurance may provide protection if the DJ’s equipment causes property damage or injures a guest, for example, if a light stand falls on a guest or an electrical fire disrupts or worst, ends the event.
5. Do they have a complete backup system ready to use, including a computer, speakers, DJ controller or mixer, microphones, and essential cables?
Electronic equipment can fail, so ask how quickly the DJ can switch to backup equipment without significantly interrupting the event.
Vague answers, hesitation, or an unwillingness to provide reasonable documentation may indicate that the DJ is not operating with the level of professionalism your event requires.
If a DJ cannot demonstrate that they are properly prepared, insured, and equipped, consider another service. Clear answers and supporting documentation can help you choose a professional who is ready to protect the success of your event.
