My parents have raised six kids + a grandchild, have been through SO much over the years and haven’t asked for anything. So we’re asking for them. 🤍
My parents have been through so much over the years. From a cancer diagnosis, to losing my brother, and then dealing with so much trauma that unfolded after the fact. Life has given them more than their fair share of hardship.
In 2014, my dad got really sick. He had been dealing with health issues for years, but eventually stress took its toll and we found out he had cancer. He became bedridden and was down to just 90 pounds. We honestly didn’t think he was going to make it.
At the time, my parents had a thriving natural skincare business, Hodges Herbary, which had to be put on hold while my mom cared for my dad. She had no time for anything else.
By some miracle, my dad made it through surgery and survived. Slowly, he got better and better. It was one of the craziest things I’ve ever witnessed, watching him fight his way back to health. He had such a determination to live and get healthy for his family.
His recovery was slow, and he still deals with health issues as a result of everything he went through. But by 2019, he had mostly recovered, and for the first time in years, things were finally looking up.
Sadly, that was also the year our family experienced our greatest heartbreak.
My brother, Nick, their only son, died suddenly and unexpectedly at 29 years young.
Nick was really the glue that held our family together. He saw solutions when others saw problems. He was just honestly so wise beyond his years. He was one of the kindest souls and always made time to help others, even when he was struggling himself. Losing him completely shattered our family.
In the days following his death, my brother’s old boss created a GoFundMe to help with expenses and to eventually put a bench in Nick’s honour. At the time, his boss seemed so genuine. It seemed like he truly wanted to help our family.
We later found out that his old boss had actually been stealing from his employees. And, to our absolute shock, he entered his own banking information into the GoFundMe and stole all of the money that had been raised for
