On August 17, 2023 a new out of control fire started in the Oliver Creek area and is visible in Louis Creek. The fire is listed as Fire Number: K22810

with lightning suspected to be the cause of this blaze, which is now known as the Oliver Creek wildfire.

According to Kamloops Fire Centre as of August 18 at 1:00 p.m., this new fire is estimated now at over 8.3 hectares by BC Wildfire Service (BCWS).

The driver of a commercial vehicle involved in a now-infamous incident on Highway 5 between Barrriere and Clearwater in March is no longer employed by the company he drove for, and has left the country.

At the end of March, along a busy section of Highway 5, a commercial transport carrier was caught on dashcam footage making an illegal pass over a double solid line on this notorious stretch of highway in the North Thompson.

Following a lengthy investigation, police searching for the offending driver were led to an Edmonton address, and enlisted the involvement of the Edmonton Police Service, only to find that the driver is no longer in Canada.

Disc golf is attracting a lot of interest in the North Thompson with three locations available in the Clearwater area. The Clearwater Ski Hill, Clearwater Secondary School and Wells Gray Golf and RV are great places if you are interested in trying the sport for fun. If you are feeling a bit more competitive, you’ll want to start practicing now for upcoming tournaments throughout the Interior of B.C.

Sept. 29 to Oct. 1, Harvest Huck will be hosting the 2023 B.C. Disc Golf Provincial tournament in Clearwater at the Clearwater Ski Hill course.

Clearwater RCMP responded to 54 calls for service this past week.

On Saturday July 22, at 2:14 p.m. a 57 year old Kamloops man called the Clearwater RCMP to report a hit and run at the Vavenby General Store.

The man said that a male driving an older black GMC pickup backed into his 1988 Porsche 928 and then sped off toward Hwy. 5 at a high rate of speed.

Clearwater RCMP responded to 54 calls for service this past week.
