Crazy how one building can hold so many different chapters of your life!
The old Peavey Mart Centrium, now the Marchant Crane Centrium is where I was crowned Miss Rodeo Canada, where I got to crown Jayden Calvert 2 years later, and where I had one of the first real opportunities in sports media and film that helped shape the career I have now.
It’s also where a lot of my memories with Feature Productions started - with them giving me the opportunity to film the CFR performances, editing the pre-show pumper videos, and creating some openings. I’ll also never forget staying up all night editing the athlete features/interviews I would film in the mornings after pitching the concept to Lyle Kurtz and creating those pieces with the CVS Controls athletes. Looking back, those interviews were a huge creative turning point for me - some of the first longer-form stories I ever built.
At the time, I didn’t always know how I was going to pull some of it off, especially the editing side (I crash coursed Premier Pro in record timing). But I knew if I wanted it badly enough, I’d figure it out. A lot of growth happened in that building creatively and professionally, and some pretty unforgettable memories came with it too.
Rodeo hasn’t been back there since CFR 2023, so seeing it return tonight in Red Deer feels really cool!
