🚨 SCENE WATCH COMMUNITY NOTICE - CREEMORE 🇨🇦

If you notice a strong military presence in and around Creemore tomorrow, Wednesday, September 9, don’t be alarmed. It’s a planned Canadian Armed Forces training exercise.

Approximately 50 soldiers and staff from the Royal Canadian Electrical and Mechanical Engineers School are expected to be in the area, walking through the community using maps and compasses while training for military operations in built-up areas.

🪖 IMPORTANT TO KNOW:

• Soldiers will NOT be armed
• No live ammunition will be used
• No blank ammunition or pyrotechnics will be used
• Members of the public may see soldiers moving throughout the streets
• Interaction with the public is actually encouraged as part of creating a realistic training environment

The Department of National Defence says lessons from overseas deployments have shown that modern conflicts can occur in cities and towns, making this type of training important.

So if you see Canadian Armed Forces personnel throughout Creemore tomorrow, there’s no emergency. It’s training.

🚨 SCENE WATCH | MARINE RESCUE — GEORGIAN BAY 🚨

Five people were safely rescued from the waters of Georgian Bay after their pleasure craft sank northwest of Giant’s Tomb Island on Saturday.

According to Beausoleil Fire and Rescue, crews received the call for help at approximately 4:20 p.m. All five occupants were successfully rescued from the water, with no injuries reported.

Crews were also called to a separate marine distress incident at Cawaja Beach on Saturday, where another three people were successfully rescued.

A busy day on the water for emergency crews and thankfully, everyone made it out safely.

👏 Great work by Beausoleil Fire and Rescue and everyone involved in these successful rescues.

🏫 COLLINGWOOD FIRE STAFFING: THE CALLS KEEP COMING- WHERE IS THE TOWN’S RESPONSE? ✍️

📍 Collingwood, Ontario

This weekend once again highlighted the pressure being placed on Collingwood Fire, as crews dealt with multiple back-to-back and stacked emergency calls.

While the assigned on-duty platoon was already committed to an emergency, additional calls continued to come in. At several points, off-duty firefighters had to be paged to cover the station and respond to another call.

This isn’t about criticizing our firefighters. They continue to answer the call and serve our community when we need them. This is about making sure they have the staffing and resources necessary to do their jobs safely and effectively.

And this isn’t just about one busy weekend.

Repeated stacked calls continue to raise serious questions about emergency response capacity, firefighter availability and what happens when multiple emergencies occur at the same time.

Collingwood needs change, and we need that change now.

🏛️ Collingwood Town Council, we need your response.

Residents are waiting. Our firefighters deserve support. Our community deserves answers.

We sent a letter.
We knocked on your door.
It’s time to answer the door.

Public safety cannot wait until something goes terribly wrong before action is taken.

🚸 Watch for children crossing or running into the roadway.
🐢 SLOW DOWN in school zones and residential neighbourhoods.
👀 Stay alert — put the phone down and watch your surroundings.

📍 Hurontario Street & Ontario Street

A male using a wheelchair was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Hurontario Street and Ontario Street in Collingwood.

🚑 The patient was assessed by EMS and OPP confirmed the male has been transported to Collingwood General & Marine Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Collingwood Fire, EMS and OPP attended the scene.
