Chances are you might remember the address of Bridge Interiors better than your own. For decades, that address—and the familiar voices behind it—were part of doing business in Cranbrook.

But Ken and Karin Bridge built a legacy that reaches far beyond the walls of their longtime business.

The Cranbrook Chamber of Commerce is proud to recognize Ken and Karin Bridge, longtime owners of Bridge Interiors, as the recipients of our 2nd Annual Business Legacy Award.

Since starting Bridge Interiors in 1998, Ken and Karin built their business around a simple philosophy: take care of people. Their employees became family. Their customers became friends. And their success became an opportunity to give back to the community they were proud to call home.

“People don’t work for you, you work for them.” That belief shaped how they led their team, served their customers and supported Cranbrook for nearly three decades. Through changing industries, changing buying habits and changing times, the Bridges remained grounded in relationships, respect, hard work and trust.

Long-time Chamber members and supporters, Ken and Karin also quietly gave back to countless community organizations, initiatives and individuals—often without recognition or expectation. As they put it so perfectly:
“We tried to take care of people, and in turn people took care of us.”

That is a legacy worth celebrating.

What an elephantastical weekend from Ed Fest! 🐘

The story:
In August 1926, the tranquil town of Cranbrook, British Columbia, was jolted into excitement by an unexpected event: the arrival of the Sells-Floto Circus. This American circus, renowned for its spectacular animal acts, brought with it a parade of elephants. However, the situation quickly turned chaotic when 14 elephants stampeded out of their enclosures.

Most of the elephants were swiftly recaptured, but one elephant, later named Cranbrook Ed, managed to evade capture for over a month. His escape captivated Cranbrook and the surrounding areas as the elephant roamed the forests and hills, becoming a local legend as residents reported sporadic sightings.

During his time on the loose, Ed traversed a variety of terrains, from dense woods to open fields. People were both fascinated and fearful, as it was not every day that an elephant wandered the Canadian wilderness. Efforts to capture Ed included organized search parties, the use of tracking dogs, bait and traps, aerial searches, and the involvement of local law enforcement and wildlife authorities. The community played a crucial role, reporting sightings and helping to track Ed's movements.

Ed’s adventure came to an end on September 12, when he was found near Jim Smith Lake, feasting on local produce. His capture marked the conclusion of a remarkable saga that had gripped Cranbrook and made headlines.
