"Dear Manager"
A poem created for employees and managers; in hopes to open up conversations about how to create a better workplace environments.
The Back Story:
I felt compelled to write this spoken word poem after I had been recently fired from my previous job. The termination came quite unexpectedly, and while I had a week off visiting my family back home.
I received a call while catching up with family, informing me that my workplace was terminating my contract. The reasoning behind it, were for reasons I had never even been suspended, written up, or even spoken to about before.
After 10 months, back to helping be a process of opening the establishment itself, creating life-long friendships and bonds with guests, and it was all over in one phone call.
I had seen this type of thing happen to friends in previous jobs, being fired and walked out for no reason. What I've found, is it's usually the people who are willing to stand up and speak their mind on problems in the workplace. Whether their intentions are out of anger for the manager, or from a place of wanting to create a better work environment as a whole, it usually still has the same outcome.
So, this is poem for all those who have been fired/quit for opening your mouth. For all those who have seen the faces at work change faster than the seasons. For the managers who wonder what they can do to better connect and understand their employees. This is for ALL of us.
