Given the current negativity that seems to loom and gravitate towards this platform, I feel the need to formally introduce myself.

Hello Facebook, my name's Tahiti, and Camp Denman's social media is run by me— a fellow Denmanite, not an AI robot. :)

I was born and raised in Hawaii. I'm a proud Mom to two beautiful boys (ages 21 & 9), stepmom to three amazing girls (ages 9, 11, & 14), and surrogate mama to one lucky boy (age 6). (Yes, I was a surrogate for my best gay-Dad friends in 2020 & I documented the entire journey on YouTube.com/Tahitirey )

You may have seen me on our local stages singing, acting, or playing music. I'm one of the founders of Denman's dance school, InnerIslandDance.co (I also designed our logo & website), a proud member of Theater Denman that brought last year's musical SHINE to the hall. And for the last year, I've been the chef at Denman Island Community School and more recently for Wildhaven Camp.

I'm an artist, in every medium. Realism oils are my favorite thing to paint. I'm also a songwriter who recorded & released an album of original music you can listen to at Tahitirey.com/album. I've published a short story available on Amazon and Audible. I've written, filmed, and performed slam poetry and sketch comedy.

I've worked as a social media manager, professional singer, makeup artist, web designer, graphic designer, and studied at university for both Fashion Design and Culinary Arts. I play the piano and guitar, albeit not that well… haha. I’ve dabbled in videography and filmmaking, creating tons of cooking videos, as well as video content for other artists.

I’ve always filmed, edited, built websites, made fliers, logos, graphics, and scripts for all my projects, and did so completely without any AI tools…until about 6 months ago. I now proudly use some AI tools in my workflow, and it has made some things much more efficient while allowing me to spend more of my time actually creating and giving me more time with my loved ones.

If you see a post here, it's written, curated, video-edited, and inspired by ME. I use AI tools to help me plan, research, spell-check, grammar-check, and filter my ideas sometimes, but there is always ME—a human, an artist, a poet, a writer, a creator, and a community member behind it.

Camp Denman feels like the culmination of all my passions aligning into a place to call home and work. To create a space for artists of all kinds, both young and seasoned, both refined and messy. And as Camp Denman's Social Media Manager and Performance & Culinary Arts Director, I'm very proud to be a part of this vision and passion.

Grateful to meet you all! (Well, digitally :)

As you can tell, I’m an open book, so feel free to say hello, introduce yourself, and ask me any questions you’d like!

I'll see if I can insert some links below to my work and art, so you can get to know me even more.

Aloha!

Making memories. There’s something about getting away from the normal routine that makes it much easier to have new ideas, with new people and magical places.

This last week, Camp Denman hosted WildHaven—a music and dance camp for Denman Island youth. Our land, our accommodations, our support—all donated to celebrate the creative talents of our community's young people.

Watching kids discover what they can do with music and dance, watching them build friendships, watching them leave with more confidence than they arrived with—this is why we're here.

Community isn't built by keeping things to yourself. It's built by sharing space. By investing in each other. By believing in the next generation.

We're grateful for this land. We're grateful to share it with WildHaven and these incredible kids. And we're hopeful about the future they're building.

We loved seeing what happens when sound, art, film and music all start crossing over into each other.

There’s something really lovely about making things together just because you’re curious about what might happen.

Summer is almost over. Still so much work to do. We’re creating a place where people can gather, make things, share ideas and enjoy being creative together.

Sometimes all a half-finished song really needs is a little uninterrupted time to see where it wants to go.
