Hello everyone

I know I have not been very active on the accessibleadventurers socials. I’ve had some health issues that I’ve been dealing with both physically and mentally and am now feeling 100% again!

For those of you who may not know, I am an avid sailor and have been for over 20 years. I am a member of our local disabled sailing organization called Sail Able Nova Scotia both as a sailor as well as a board member. This truly is a passion of mine and as change my life dramatically. Here’s the back story…

Back in 2006, I had the privilege to attend The Mobility Cup in Vancouver, British Columbia. Prior to this, I had never sailed a sailboat in my life and was anxious/excited for this rare opportunity. At that time, I went to Vancouver not knowing anybody in the sailing community. Heck, I didn’t even know how to sail. But through the perseverance of lots of hard work and support from my community, I am now an established racer and has competed in more than 5 mobility cups since 2006 including 2 here and Halifax Nova Scotia.

Unfortunately, 2026 has been a frustrating year for our disabled sailing organization. We were not able to obtain full-time instructors which is an integral part for our program. Therefore, we have lost 90% of our revenues and have had to shorten our season. Because of this we’ve had to pivot and decided to hold a fundraising regatta on August 8 & August 9 here in Halifax Nova Scotia. We are hoping to raise enough funds to secure sailing instructors this fall as opposed to waiting for grants to come to fruition in the spring.

We’ve reached out to our local community and they have responded with their generosity and kindness! If you know of anyone who may be interested in supporting our local regatta, please see the attached poster. It would mean a lot to me and my fellow sailors if you could help support this worthwhile organization.

If you want to see more about me, check out this video with Rick Mercer filmed back in 2013!

Thanks,

Kevin

Also, Stay tuned for personal footage of the regatta in August!
