It's been a big last few days for Southlake Health and for residents here in York Region! Yesterday was the annual Nature's Emporium Run for Southlake, which raised $503,869.78. Today another announcement: EG is getting Southlake's second hospital in Queensville! Congrats to everyone who helped get EG "there"!

On April 26th, Team Matthews (Blair, Carter and Erin) are walking 5K in support of Southlake hospital. We are walking this year in recognition of Carter's upcoming 10th birthday. He started his life with 12 days in the Southlake NICU so we are supporting Southlake this year to celebrate that he's a healthy and happy kid! We hope that you can help us by sponsoring our team (although there is no pressure to donate)!

Now, more than ever, our hospital needs our help to make sure that every patient gets the care they deserve, when they need it most. Did you know the government does not provide funding for most new or replacement hospital tools and equipment? Everything from basic tools like beds and IV poles to st...

Lots of positive feedback coming in about our March Bulletin edition - thank you so much for reading it! One of our feature stories is about EG resident, Bruce Brydon. Bruce is a champion environmentalist, not just within East Gwillimbury, but the world over.

March is here, and so is the March EG Bulletin!
The magazine is IN THE MAIL across EG, coming to mailboxes this week. It's also been delivered to pick-up locations: Vince's (Sharon), Food Land (Mount Albert), the EG Civic Centre, Mount Albert Chiropractic, Cobs Bread, Firehouse Subs, Ross Family Complex (Mount Albert), Holland Landing Community Centre (HL).

This time around it's a fun one for sure:
• Pop Culture comes to EG with East Gwillimbury Comicon - read about comic book collectors, superhero artists, and some little known facts from a vendor who once worked for Coleco during the Cabbage Patch Kids era!
• Bruce Brydon - this EG resident was recently awarded a lifetime environmental achievement award. Read all about his worldwide adventures documenting birds and caring for the environment.

Brrrr ❄️ It's cold out there. is proud to support the Coldest Night of the Year and all the organizations working year-round to provide shelter, support and hope to those in need. The extreme cold temperatures we have experienced these past several weeks are a reminder of just how important it is to support this initiative, to ensure the appropriate programs can continue to assist those who need it most.

Join on February 28 in support of Blue Door Shelter for the Coldest Night of the Year walk. If you can’t walk for the cause, please consider a donation. When the temperature drops, our community compassion rises.

This walk is for all ages! Learn more, donate or register to Team EG at eastgwillimbury.ca/CNOY.

Love is in the air! It's Valentine's Day for some, Valentine's Weekend for others. Happy Hearts Day to those who observe it - and Happy Singles Awareness Day to those who don't. (Silver lining: half price Valentine's candy on Sunday!)

In 2019, I wrote a story about a couple of Mount Albert lovebirds celebrating their 100th birthdays together. Bill & Violet Kirton taught me a lot about life in EG in the short time we talked. They inspired me to write what has become one of my favourite Bulletin stories. Give it a read, and Happy Valentine's Day to all!

**Much has happened in the years since this story was written. Bill passed away in 2020 at 101 years old; Violet passed away last year at 105 years old.**
