Walked into Bay Station this morning and found a full mariachi band playing for Cinco de Mayo, with music from Mariachi Borealis.

Not your usual commute, but definitely a good one.

It is also Red Dress Day in Canada, and the red dress on display honours Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people.

How well do you know Edmonton?

When I started Afroedmontonian, it was my way of finding my place in this city and journaling my life as an immigrant. Learning it slowly. Experiencing it fully. And discovering joy in the little things around me.

This series, β€œHow Well Do You Know Edmonton,” is an extension of that. A different way of exploring Edmonton through its history, its stories, and the gems we often walk past without noticing.

I hope you’ll join me as I unravel and celebrate the small and big wonders that make this place feel like home.

First stop: Neon Sign Museum.

Edmonton has puppy yoga, and it might be one of the cutest experiences I’ve tried.

But this is what no one tells you about puppy yoga:

🐢 You will not complete a single pose properly
🐢 Your mat is no longer yours alone
🐢 Focus is not an option
🐢 And you will immediately fall in love

We went in thinking it would be a calm session, but between the constant distractions and all the puppy cuddles, the puppies completely took over.

If you’re looking for something a little different to do in the city, this is actually a really fun one.

Sessions run on weekends, with about 45 minutes of yoga and some time after to just hang out with the puppies.
