Hey Guys,
We had some requests for putting together a list of Restaurants that have designated Prayer areas.

Given the short days as well as Ramadan coming up may people look for places to pray while on the road.

I know on the south side following restaurants have designated prayer areas.
-Eat Alley
-Photastic Halal
-KohSar Grill
-Fatima Karahi

Please comment with the list of Restaurants that you confirmed know has a designated prayer area in Edmonton.

Thanks for your help!

🚨⚠️Last few months we tried lots of places, however, included the ones we liked. This list is based on our own taste and experience, NOT based on public opinion.

Based on our experience of visiting every single Pakistani restaurants in Edmonton (inc. Sherwood Park) we have concluded that every Pakistani Restaurant is controversial. If one group likes a restaurant the other group absolutely hates it. So visit at your own risk and preferences. Our good experience doesn’t guarantee that you will have a good experience too. ⚠️🚨

Went to this Fried Chicken spot last night and what happened after left us thinking for a while.

Two kids came in and ordered something. Later we noticed they kept looking at the menu and talking to each other. Checked their table and they were only eating spuds. They kept looking at the menu and trying to figure out what else they could order, however, probably didn’t have enough money.

We almost finished our chicken and almost didn’t care about the left over spuds. While on the other table these two kids were eating only spuds with so much satisfaction.

We sometimes do not realize how blessed we are and waste so much food and at the other end some other people could probably appreciate that so much.

Nihari & Paya: Part 5

Beef Nihari — $9.99
(Weekend Special Price)

I visited with fairly low expectations, considering the very affordable price point and the restaurant’s history of trying various concepts over the years. However, the Nihari turned out to be a pleasant surprise.

The presentation was decent—reasonable given the price—and the overall quality exceeded expectations. The dish included two solid, clean shank pieces without any unnecessary or inedible parts added for volume. The gravy was thick, fresh, and full of flavor.

The only drawback was a slight odor in the meat, which is uncommon for beef but more typical of goat or lamb. While it may be noticeable for those who are particular about such things, the dish still tasted delicious, especially when considering the $9.99 price. At this value, I would definitely return.

Ambience:
The restaurant has visibly aged and lost some of its earlier vibrancy. That said, the tables and booths were clean and well-maintained. The main concern is the lack of adequate lighting, as the space receives almost no natural light, which impacts the overall dining atmosphere.

One aspect that felt out of place was the staff member—an uncle taking orders and serving—wearing pajama-style clothing, which isn’t ideal for a dine-in setting. Nonetheless, he was polite and pleasant throughout the service.

Nihari & Paya: Part 4

KohSar Grill
📍3535 Gateway Blvd NW, Edmonton
Date of Visit: November 29, 2025

⸻

Beef Nihari — $15

The presentation was decent, and the dish is reasonably priced.

Interestingly, the flavour reminded me of a blend between Nihari and Paya—as if both were combined in one bowl. There is a valid reason for this: KohSar Grill prepares their Nihari with bone (Paya), which explains the mixed flavour profile.

I enjoyed the taste overall. Would I rate this as the best Nihari in Edmonton? Probably not. The gravy could have been thicker, and I personally prefer Nihari without a strong Paya influence. However, if you’re looking for a variation from the traditional Nihari served elsewhere, this is definitely worth trying.

⸻

Halwa Puri — $16

KohSar Grill offers what is arguably the largest Halwa Puri platter in Edmonton.

Pros:
• Puris were not oily
• Chana had the right texture and were not overly softened (some places use excessive baking soda, which was thankfully not the case here)
• Halwa consistency was perfect—not watery

Cons:
• It is the most expensive Halwa Puri option in Edmonton

Halwa Puri preferences vary widely, and everyone has their favourite spot. Personally, I would order this again, and the only drawback for me is the price. I do wish it were slightly more affordable.

However, considering that Edmonton’s most popular Halwa Puri spot charges $12, and another restaurant offers theirs at $15 (currently discounted to $8), I would say KohSar’s pricing is justified when you factor in the portion size, quality, ambience, and customer service.

⸻

Verdict:
If the $15 Halwa Puri elsewhere is available at the discounted $8 price, I’d choose the $8 option.

But at regular pricing, if I’m paying $15, I would rather spend an extra dollar and go to KohSar Grill.
