There likely won’t be an election until 2026.
“Asked by reporters following the debate about the prospect of heading into an early election, Carney wouldn’t directly say.“
We need to know what happens over the course of the next few weeks,” Carney said, referencing ongoing negotiations with the Americans and Trump’s tariff threats. “With respect to that, there are some circumstances, and I’ll let you use your imagination, where it may make sense to recall Parliament, or for Parliament to sit from (March) 24.”
“We will do the responsible thing if I’m elected leader. Of course we will,” he added. “It is more likely that the best thing for Canada is that the government has a strong and clear mandate sooner to take the necessary steps to build this country.””*
TVA-Quebec anchor Pierre Jobin challenged Carney that Trump would want to talk with someone else who is an elected representative.
Gould said that if we were in a tariff war with the United States then we would have to see what the best option if for Canada.
Freeland said she would talk to everybody, provincial and territorial premiers, the unions, business people and together they would decide whether Canada should have an election or keep a stable government.
Baylis said with the threat of President Trump it is essential we have a stable government. He went on to say the problem is Mr. Poilievre is putting his personal ambitions ahead of national interests and put the onus on Poilievre to work with the government to defend against Trump.
It is obvious all candidates want to avoid going to the polls and instead maintain a contentious and adversarial relationship with the U.S. for their political purposes.
It is beyond rich, after proroguing parliament to change the deck chairs on the Liberal government Titanic for seven of the planned 11 weeks accusations are hurled toward Pierre Poilievre for putting his personal ambitions ahead of the national interest.
Carney as economic advisor, Freeland, and Gould all participated in Canada’s economic destruction resulting in our being weak and vulnerable. Baylis, a former MP contributed as well and his Baylis Medical company won an ethically questionable $250 million sweetheart contract for ventilators.
After nine years of denigrating our heritage and national pride, none of these candidates have the right nor the credibility to accuse Pierre Poilievre of putting his personal ambitions ahead of the national interest.
