⚡️OUT NOW⚡️Randy Bradbury (Pennywise, 84 Days)

In addition to being the longtime bass player of Pennywise, Randy Bradbury’s main gig is being a rad dad to his 4 children, who range in age from teenagers to adults. He also just released the self-titled debut album from his new project, 84 DAYS, a collaboration with producer Cameron Webb and drummer Adrian Young (of No Doubt fame). It’s punk rock in the vein of Pennywise, but it’s also distinct and fresh, and represents Randy’s self-described metamorphosis from “just the bass player”.

Randy stopped by The Rad Dads Show to talk about the new band, and described the process of getting out of his own way and letting the songs just “happen”. He also discussed that same approach to parenting, and his evolution from a more authoritarian dad, to one less apt to intervene unnecessarily. Randy talked about his concept of “positive backlash” - taking things his parents did and trying to improve upon them. And he and Kristian got into so much more, from cell phones to social media and dystopian fiction becoming reality.

⚡️OUT NOW⚡️Brian Byrne (I Mother Earth, Two)

Brian Byrne is probably best known for his time as vocalist for multi-platinum Canadian rock band I Mother Earth but his latest project, Two, is more personal. He and his wife, Tara, make up the duo and, though they’ve been together for many years, this marks their first real musical collaboration. The result is heartfelt acoustic songs that blend outlaw, folk, and indie influences.

Brian stopped by to chat about how he and Tara balance the busy life of artists while holding things together at home. Brian and Brett discussed:
▪️feeding our kids the good stuff - not just food, but also art, literature, and music
▪️the importance of physical activity
▪️navigating our kids’ friendships and supporting them through bullying
▪️how homeschooling works for their family
▪️the state of the music industry and Brian’s work advocating for independent artists
▪️Two’s plans for more music, touring, and artist workshops
▪️...and so much more!

🔊Listen wherever you get your podcasts or watch the whole thing on YouTube! As usual, all the links are in our bio.

💿Two’s first two singles - Love You More and Indigo - are out now! Search “The Duo Two” to find them on your streaming platform. And make sure to catch them on an upcoming tour date if you can!

Special thanks and much love to Ben

⚡️APPRECIATION POST⚡️

Music has a funny way of bringing people together. A couple of weekends ago, .mymyandme won our contest for Buddies Fest tickets. She and her partner ended up going and we got a chance to meet in person. They were rad.

Also rad was learning that Ashley has a killer online toy store Mymy & Me based out of Tillsonburg. And today a package from .and.me showed up at Rad Dads HQ and made two little girls (and their dog) very happy.

Seriously, these toys are so great and we appreciate any opportunity to take a break from screens these days! The play dough and sticker books have been the highlights so far but we’re having a blast with everything! ♥️

Thanks Ashley and Josh! Be a buddy and go check out their store! 🔗 .and.me
