Dr. Michael Zollicoffer, affectionately known as “Dr. Z,” spent nearly 40 years providing free medical care and constant support to one of Baltimore’s poorest communities.
Patients who couldn’t afford medical treatment, would never be turned away, he treated them all, no matter what the issue.
Some would pay later, some would pay what they could, but most wouldn't pay at all. Dr Z didn't judge, they were his people to help.
His unwavering commitment to his patients built deep bonds of trust and love that lasted for decades.
Dr. Z was then diagnosed with two forms of cancer — and discovered that his health insurance was no longer active, leaving him facing overwhelming medical bills while fighting for his life.
The community he served for years immediately stepped in to raise money and support his recovery.
The man who had helped so many people, was finally being looked after himself.
