Using the Right Tools:

Imagine trying to drive a nail into a piece of wood using a screwdriver. You could swing your arm harder, strike the nail repeatedly, and grow more frustrated with every attempt. Your hand might ache, your patience might wear thin, and the nail still wouldn’t go in. The problem isn’t your effort it’s your tool. A screwdriver was never designed for that job.
So often, this is what we do in life.

Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, says the Lord Almighty.”
Zechariah 4:6

We face challenges conflict, fear, uncertainty, disappointment and we respond by trying harder. We push ourselves, overthink, or rely on our own strength and understanding. When nothing changes, we assume we aren’t doing enough. But sometimes the issue isn’t effort at all. It’s that we’re using the wrong tools.

God never intended for us to handle life with tools that don’t fit. We try to fix broken situations with control instead of surrender. We respond to hurt with anger instead of forgiveness. We attempt to carry heavy burdens alone when God invites us to bring them to Him. Like the screwdriver and the nail, no amount of force can make the wrong tool suddenly become the right one.
Scripture reminds us that God provides what we need for the work set before us wisdom for decisions, peace for anxious hearts, strength for weakness, and grace for growth. When we choose prayer instead of panic, trust instead of fear, and obedience instead of pride, things begin to change not because life becomes easy, but because we’re finally working with the tools God designed for the task.

If something in your life feels unnecessarily exhausting, it may be worth pausing and asking: Am I relying on myself when God is asking me to rely on Him? God is faithful to equip us, but we must be willing to put down the tools that were never meant to carry the weight.
