You may have seen people yesterday with black smudges on their foreheads. That was for Ash Wednesday, which Christians around the world observe by having ashes put on them as a sign of faith, humility, and repentance.
⬇️
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a forty day period leading up to Easter (which excludes Sundays).
⬇️
On Ash Wednesday, and the Fridays of Lent, fasting is practiced as well. For Catholics, fasting consists of abstaining from red meat, and eating only one meal, with two small meals or snacks which are less than the main meal when combined.

Do you observe Ash Wednesday?
