Today’s very special finish…
A few months ago a young lady enquired about having a quilts made (start to finish). She was in possession of a bag of fabrics and pattern found in storage after her mom had died some 10 years ago. She knew nothing about quilting, but would like to see her mom’s intention come to fruition.
Sure, I said. Bring over what you have and we can chat.
Much to my delight, the carefully curated fabrics were neatly folded in a vintage (like from Lendrum days) Earthly Goods bag! Many of the fabrics I even recognized!
Knowing I couldn’t start the project until October after my return from our Australia tour, she agreed. She also wanted a different background fabric than her mom had chosen… Quilt Essentials to the rescue and 6m of sea foam green grunge was ordered.
October was a busy month as I pieced the inner lone star… only to discover the pattern included in the bag of fabrics was not complete! I researched Broken Star, Lone Star, etc. and made a test wedge of scrap fabrics to test my own math. Setting triangles is another kind of math!
Finally pieced and borders added… resulting in a 110” x 110” quilt top! Too big for my frame, so to the rescue! Joanne and Quilt Path completed this beast (THANK YOU!) and then back to me for binding.
I chose a faux piped binding to add a little something extra to the outside edge. Of course I added a label… and viola! It’s done!!
