On January 1, 2027, Alberta will introduce a new auto insurance system that will provide better health benefits to Albertans while ensuring long-term auto insurance affordability for citizens and stability for the province’s system. The new Care-First system will provide improved medical, rehabilitation, and income support benefits for all Albertans injured in an accident, regardless of fault, while continuing to hold at-fault drivers accountable through higher premiums. Albertans injured in an accident will be able to access these enhanced benefits more quickly, with more certainty and without the need to sue in court.

Occupational therapists are invited to attend a webinar on October 30 from 1 pm to 2:30 pm (MST), where Treasury Board and Finance officials will provide an introduction to the elements of Care-First Automobile Insurance that are of key interest to health care providers and also provide an introduction to two new regulations.

The webinar will focus on providing an introduction and overview of Care-First and the important role of health care providers and additional health stakeholders. Health care providers will play a critical role in ensuring Albertans have the care that they need within Care-First.

In addition, a review of two new regulations – a Benefit, Treatment and Care regulation and a Permanent Impairment regulation will be provided.

Webinar Agenda
1. Welcome and introductions
2. Overview of Care-First and the Case for Change
3. The role of Health Care Providers in Care-First

We help people manage everyday tasks at home.

Home is where we feel safe, comfortable, and connected. But when medical conditionsβ€”temporary or long-termβ€”make daily tasks harder, occupational therapists provide the skills and support people need to stay safe and independent at home.

✨ Here’s how an OT can help:
βœ… Home assessments – identify barriers to safety & independence
βœ… Personalized therapy plans – focused on mobility, function & goals
βœ… Adaptive techniques – new ways to cook, bathe, dress & clean
βœ… Assistive devices – recommend & train use of grab bars, walkers, kitchen tools
βœ… Activity modification – break down tasks into manageable steps
βœ… Caregiver education – strategies to support loved ones at home
βœ… Fall prevention – exercises & home layout changes to reduce risk
βœ… Routine development – build healthy habits & support mental health

πŸ’‘ OTs help people live comfortably, safely, and with confidence in their own homes.
