A single drop at a time, winter and Mother Nature worked patiently together to create this frozen ice fountain. What began as a gentle trickle slowly built upward, each droplet freezing in place before the next could fall, shaping delicate ridges and glassy curves of ice. The fountain stands quiet and still now, a sculpture formed not by haste but by time—proof of nature’s steady hand and winter’s ability to turn something fleeting into something beautifully enduring.

In December, clusters of bright red berries cling to slender branches dusted with fresh snow, standing out boldly against the muted winter landscape. The cold hush of the season seems to pause around them, as if winter itself is admiring their quiet resilience. Each berry glows like a tiny ember, adding warmth and colour to an otherwise monochrome world, a gentle reminder that even in the stillness of winter, nature holds onto its beauty and life.

A lone tree stood quietly in the middle of a snow-covered field, its branches etched sharply against the pale winter landscape. The untouched snow around it stretched in every direction, soft and silent. In the distance, gentle hills rise, their slopes dotted with trees cloaked in white, fading softly into the winter haze. The simplicity of the moment carrying a quiet strength—solitude balanced by the comforting presence of the forest beyond.

Waves crashing relentlessly against the Lake Superior shoreline, pounding the ancient, timeworn rocks that have stood guard for centuries. Along the water’s edge, tiny multicoloured pebbles shimmering like scattered gems, polished smooth by countless seasons of wind and wave. Icicles clinging to the massive rocks, turning the shoreline into a frozen mosaic of both motion and stillness. The deep, steady rhythm of the lake echoed through the scene, raw and powerful, yet strikingly beautiful.

Another digital creation, this image is based on one of my original photographs and explores the quiet beauty of snow-covered trees mirrored in still water. The reflection softens the winter scene, blending reality and imagination into a calm, almost dreamlike moment. Snow-laden branches seem to invite the viewer to pause and take in winter’s gentle stillness.

In winter, these waterfalls reveal a striking blend of sound and beauty, as these small falls send a roar through the cold, quiet air. Snow and ice gather among the rocks. The steady rush of the falls brings the landscape to life, making winter here feel both peaceful and powerful and showing just how captivating this place can be during the colder months.

A snow-covered pathway winds gently through towering evergreens, their branches heavy with winter’s snow. Sunlight streams through the trees, casting soft golden beams across the snow and guiding the eye down the path ahead. The blend of light and shadow adds warmth to the cool scene, turning a this winter trail into something a little more magical and inviting—my artistic interpretation of a peaceful moment based upon one of my photographs.

Early morning at Sheriff Creek Nature Sanctuary, the wooden bridge lay hushed under a fresh layer of snow, the world around it calm and unbroken. I was the first to cross, my footprints would softly mark the snow and remind me how untouched the morning was. The marsh had begun to freeze over, its surface stilled by the cold, while beneath the bridge a narrow stream of water continued to move quietly along. The air seemed to pause and a gentle stillness wrapped the scene in quiet reflection.

What started as a simple bare tree silhouette against a dull grey early-winter sky turned into such a fun creative journey. With a bit of imagination, I slowly transformed this bare tree into a glowing scene with snowflakes drifting gently from above— an image I now entitled “It’s Snowing.” I get so much joy out of turning everyday moments like this into a new colourful creation and this one was especially satisfying to bring to life.
