Flipped your lid? Lost your cool? Flown off the handle?

We all do this as parents and it usually doesn't go well. So why do we do it?

This episode will talk about the very human reasons we do this and what we can do about it. It also explains why our teenagers are more likely to flip their lids as well.

Some light neuroscience in here that can help us understand ourselves so much better. I also give you some guidance on how to catch yourself before you flip your lid. You don't want to miss this episode.

In this week's episode I share the answers to the above questions and will also give you 10 ideas for how to improve connection with your teenager.

What if I asked you to demonstrate how you brush your teeth? No problem right? You have confidence in this (hopefully)

Now....

What if I asked you to speak in front of 100 people? Would you be confident with this? Maybe or maybe not..... If you have done this many time you may have confidence in this area, but what if you haven't?

You can still be self-confident. You don't have proof that you will be good at it but you can absolutely tell yourself that no matter what happens out there, you will support yourself completely.

Will this take nervousness and anxiety away? Not necessarily.

Will it make it more likely that you will try more things? Absolutely, because you know you won't beat yourself up about it no matter what happens.

This is self-confidence and it can be learned.

Self-confidence is a skill

Not sure about you but I have never had motivation just hit me out of the blue and make me do all of the things I know are good for me. It's the same with our teenagers.

In this week's episode we look at the motivational triad and how lack of motivation is a very human response. It helps to understand our brains and why they do what they do. This can help us learn to work with them for our own benefit and the benefit of our relationship with our teenagers.

How do you connect with a teenager who has a different personality type than you? Why do we also struggle connecting with a teenager who has a similar personality type? This weeks episode came from a listener question about this very challenge.

Listen in as I explore this topic and give you some things to ponder in your own relationship first with yourself and then with your teenager.

Enjoy!
