The Fort Erie Race Track team is saddened to learn of the passing of legendary horse racing trainer Mike Doyle.
His prolific career, which included winning the $125,000 Rainbow Connection Stakes at Fort Erie Race Track, placed him among the elite of Canadian horse racing icons. With more than 1,000 wins and $44 million in purse earnings under his belt, Doyleโs incredible work as a trainer earned him an induction into the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame this year.
โNot only was Mike one of the best trainers to ever work the backstretch, but outside the track, he was truly one of the nicest men youโd ever meet,โ recalled Drew Cady, general manager of Fort Erie Race Track.
From humble beginnings in Ireland where he was born into a family of longtime horse trainers, Doyle headed to Canada in the 70s where he quickly rose to prominence, racking up major wins at Woodbine and Fort Erie throughout the 80s and 90s and into the 2000s, and mentoring future Hall of Famers like Josie Carroll along the way.
Everyone at Fort Erie Race Track sends their condolences to his family and friends.
RIP Mike.
