Alaska: Hold my salmon, we’re launching a 2004 minivan off a 300-foot cliff. 🚙💨

It is crazy how fast the seasons change—this was just one month ago! 🏔️✨

The transformation up here will completely take your breath away. One week you're looking at frozen landscapes, and the next, the valleys are bursting into vibrant greens, the ice is breaking on the rivers, and the highway stretches out wide open under crisp, clear skies. There is truly nothing like watching the North wake up. 🌲🚐

As you drive the route, we want to see the highway through your eyes!

📸 Share your journey with us! Drop your best road trip shots into the Travel Stories section of the Open Road App. Let's build the ultimate gallery of the north together.

If you’re driving the Parks Highway and don’t pull over for this, you’re doing it wrong. 🚗💨

We dropped by our amazing client Willow Tastee Q in Willow, and let’s just say the smoke signals did not disappoint. They are serving up absolute perfection from their pop-up setup—we’re talking fall-off-the-bone spare ribs, perfectly grilled corn, and so much more.

Support local, eat incredible BBQ, and make sure to stop by the tent next time you’re on the road! 🪵🔥🥩

Located just a short drive from Mile 0, the Kiskatinaw River Bridge is a true marvel of engineering history!

As we map out the best stops for the 2026 Guide, we couldn’t skip this iconic curved wooden trestle. Built during the original construction of the Alaska Highway, it is one of the few remaining timber structures of its kind that you can still walk across today. Its unique 9° curve was designed to help move heavy military equipment safely across the canyon—and it’s still standing strong decades later!

If you’re looking for that perfect “Old Alaska Highway” photo op, this is it. Just a quick detour off the main road, it’s a peaceful spot to stretch your legs and appreciate the sheer grit it took to build this highway.

Pro-Tip: Make sure to grab your free 2026 Guide in Dawson Creek before heading out so you don’t miss hidden gems like this along the route!

Where it all begins! 🗺️✨

Standing at the world-famous Mile 0 sign in Dawson Creek, BC, the official starting point of the 1,422-mile journey to Delta Junction, Alaska. For us at Open Road, this isn’t just a photo op—it’s the gateway to the rugged beauty and incredible stories of the North.

Our team is on the ground here at the historic road, ensuring the 2026 Guides are stocked and ready for you to grab your free copy before you head north. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned veteran of the Alcan, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of putting the “Open Road” behind you and the wilderness ahead.

📍 Dawson Creek Must-Stop:
While you’re at Mile 0, don’t forget to visit our local partners like Tourism Dawson Creek or grab a celebratory coffee at Hug A Mug’s—your 2026 Guide is waiting for you!

The adventure starts now. Are you ready for the drive of a lifetime? 🚐🏔️

Wondering if May is a good time to drive through Alaska?

YES! While mid-summer is more green, you often miss the snow covered mountains like this. We recommend doing both!
