📚🌍 5 things you might not know about sustainable publishing:

1️⃣ Businesses that green their operations are more resilient to supply chain shocks and resource shortages.
2️⃣ Printing on 100% post-consumer paper can cut a publisher’s carbon footprint by 60%.
3️⃣ Sustainability isn’t just “nice to have” — it’s linked to employee retention and customer loyalty.
4️⃣ Even small publishers can use B Corp and UN sustainability frameworks — without being Fortune 500.
5️⃣ The biggest roadblock? Access to recycled paper for print-on-demand books.

🌍 Staff Pick of the Month: How We Gather Matters by Leor Rotchild.

💬 Why Terri-Lynn chose it:
"I’ve spent many years organizing and attending events, and I’ve seen both the magic and the mess they can create. We pour so much energy into inspiring connection — but behind the scenes, there’s often so much waste, burnout, and unintentional harm.

I picked How We Gather Matters because it helped me see that it doesn’t have to be that way. It’s smart, actionable, and packed with real stories and smart strategies to help planners create purpose-driven, low-waste gatherings that truly connect people. It’s not just about logistics — it’s about rethinking what events are for, and how they can actually reflect the world we want to live in."

If you care about bringing people together in meaningful, inclusive, and sustainable ways — this one’s for you.

🌍 What if the “tragedy of the commons” was just... wrong?

We’ve been told shared resources lead to ruin. But in this excerpt from the new edition of Think Like a Commoner, David Bollier shows how real commons — with rules, boundaries, and community care — actually work.

From permaculture to DAOs, commoning creates value through trust and cooperation — not ownership or markets. 🌱

👉 Read the excerpt and rethink what we’ve been taught. https://bit.ly/4lPwydX

In this post David Bollier shares an excerpt from Think Like a Commoner, Second Edition and adds context and reflection.

🌍 Staff Pick of the Month: The Joy of Conflict

All you need to understand the dynamics of conflict – and the joy of resolution

💬 Why Caylie chose it:

"The Joy of Conflict Resolution is a quick, clear read to help you understand the cycles of conflict and how to rise above them. It has helped me immensely in many situations where I see myself as the victim, villain or hero, and how to step back to observe my triggers and reactions and have kindness, patience and grace when my anger arises.

As Harper points out in his book, “understanding the anger arousal cycle helps us manage conflict in a couple of ways. First, it can help us manage ourselves. By knowing our triggers and impulses, we can develop strategies to respond more effectively when triggered. Such strategies can help us curb the self-righteousness that fuels the hero role and sends us into attack mode, causing the other person to experience us as the angry villain.”

Round and round it goes, until we slow down and try to make it right. In family, work and community, learning the skills in this book are essential and needed now, more than ever.

Earth Overshoot Day is July 24 — the date when we’ve used up all the ecological resources Earth can regenerate in a year.
This year, Escape from Overshoot by Peter A. Victor is featured by the Global Footprint Network as a key resource in understanding how we got here — and how we might change course.

In this timely and hopeful book, Victor explores what a post-growth economy could look like, and how we can reconnect economic systems to planetary limits.
