"Cult centres were local tribal-based hǫfs, run by chieftains, the godar, assigned to uphold the duties as Lord (Freo). These were often large farmhouse constructions that served the community of their people. The cultic signifiers were the high seat, the horn, the feast, and the hǫf itself. The cultic focus was unequivocally lineage and ancestry, not the so-called ‘blood and soil’ of conquest, but of kin and homeland as an ancestral point of origin, of belonging. Hamingja represents the truth that settles upon a family as a pure line to divination and advice from the Underworld dependent upon the patron that represents them on the other side. A good king existed within Orlǫg (cosmic law). Divine kingship was not a tenet of Germanic culture; they had no native court of gods, just ancestors. The king was not a god. That aspect was definitely an expansion by the Sturlusson clan and by Ari Þórgilsson. The cult of divine kingship developed as a Christian notion. The terms gipta, gæfa, and hamingja are however native terms for the animistic presence of Orlǫg that every good leader must possess as a divine gift – not as its origin or source, but as its recipient."

Wintertide Greetings from Anathema!
As the year turns upon its coldest hinge, we extend our salutations to you, dear readers and fellow keepers of the Work. The Long Night has settled fully upon the land, and Wintertide makes its presence known both without and within.
Anathema Publishing shall enter its winter recess on 22 December and shall return on 5 January. Though we will be closed for roughly two weeks, our website will remain open throughout this interval. Orders may be placed as usual, with the understanding that shipping will resume once we return and find our rhythm again.
Correspondence will be answered only sporadically during this liminal pause. Some quiet labours will continue, as they always do, but this interval is also claimed for genuine rest and recalibration. The year now closing has been a demanding one, marked by constraint, instability, and no small measure of trial. Where course was lost, responsibility is owned plainly. The rest belongs to the tides. A new cycle approaches, and we hope it proves steadier and more hospitable to the Work.
To those who have remained with us, your fidelity is neither unseen nor unappreciated. Publishing, for us, remains a matter of stewardship, not convenience. A further communiqué will follow after the New Year, detailing what lies ahead for 2026, the books presently in gestation, and how we intend to bring them into being.
May your Wintertide celebrations be merry, whatever name you give the feast, or even if it is simply a day of silence and reflection. May the Light endure, and the Darkness instruct.
