Today, we honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation — a day to remember the children who never came home, the Survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to carry the impacts of this history. 🧡

The legacy of colonization continues to shape the lives of Indigenous peoples across Turtle Island. These impacts are not confined to the past. They are reflected in the inequities Indigenous communities continue to experience today, including within our healthcare system.

For rural Indigenous women, barriers to accessible, timely, and culturally appropriate healthcare can have devastating consequences. Breast cancer is too often diagnosed at a later stage, when treatment can be more complex and outcomes can be poorer.

Reconciliation requires more than remembering. It means listening, learning, acknowledging the systems that have caused harm, and taking meaningful action to create better outcomes for Indigenous communities.

My Breast Day is proudly Indigenous founded. We remain committed to raising awareness, advocating for equitable access to breast health information and care, and working toward a healthcare system where every woman has the opportunity to receive the care she deserves.

Today, we remember. We listen. We learn. And we continue the work.

My Breast Day was thoughtfully and intentionally created by a breast cancer survivor, in hopes of providing education, resources, and support to other women.

We are grateful for the community we have built, a community that includes absolutely incredible women like Alison, who take their experience and let it drive them to help others.

“After completing treatment, I worked with an incredible group of women to fundraise for a Mozart 3D imaging system for our hospital. Turning something terrifying into something meaningful is an amazing feeling."

The MOZART 3D Specimen Radiography System is an advanced intraoperative X-ray tool that uses 3D tomosynthesis to image excised breast tissue in 1mm digital slices. This lets surgeons check tumour margins in real time to help reduce repeat surgeries.
