Just before Christmas this truly exquisite young girl and her mom came to see me. The pain in her mom’s eyes was TANGIBLE, as for her she avoided all eye contact… I have a personal VENDETTA against the attacks that come to steal our identity , our self worth and our future self; our hope. I said to her “ give me a year, and I promise you I will go to the ends of the earth BUT WE WILL give you the skin and the confidence that you deserve “. I did just that. In January I was blessed to go to the SCARS conference in Italy and my "skin health" toolbox got a total revamp. I remember being asked to come have a chat with a patient that cane in for a facial…I found a beautiful , well spoken hard-working young lady that was in heartbreaking despair about her skin.

I remember her telling me that she had tried everything and nothing worked. This is the story I hear often; someone who feels they have tried every product, every home remedy, every “grandma’s recipe“. Often these patients have even tried some medical grade skincare products, with little to no results.

It literally breaks my heart to see the absolute hopelessness when someone gets to a point where they are ready to just give up, and accept that “ this is my life”, that they’re so unhappy and uncomfortable in their own skins that it affects their daily functioning and daily lives.

So what did we do? I asked her to give it just one more chance; to book a consultation so we could go through a full medical history and find a true root cause of her acne and formulate a solid, goal directed treatment plan so that I could give her the chance; with the tools that I have; to have the skin she’s always dreamt of. She was hesitant at first, of course having tried everything, however, once you’re at a desperate place very often we are willing to try that one last thing.

And what a beautiful journey it was - she’s a confident and driven young woman that went through the journey of claiming back her skin health with ZO and with the assistance of lasers treating her scarring. She's now actually getting married with skin-confidence!

No one should have to suffer. There is no reason in this day and age why anyone should battle the devastating effects of acne, no matter how old they are. Yes, it requires an investment, but in my humble opinion, it is an investment that has returns beyond what can be imagined.

Parenting comes with a lot of questions… and the uncomfortable truth is, we don’t always have the answers.

This is especially true when it comes to our teenagers.

Sometimes all you need is to....START! If you want to see change with anything in this life, you have to make the decision to make the change, and start. It is no different with skin health. It can be as simple as making the choice to start wearing SPF daily. For some it could be a little more complicated and you need some help and guidance.
