Update:

Grande Prairie RCMP is advising that the collision scene is now clear.

At approximately 7:30 a.m., RCMP was dispatched to a single-vehicle collision involving a dirt bike. EMS attended and life saving measures were attempted, however, the 40-year-old male resident of Grande Prairie, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The collision is still under investigation. RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.

Grande Prairie RCMP is advising that they are currently on scene at a serious motor vehicle collision at 116 Avenue and 102 Street. At this time, traffic cannot get through the scene. Please take alternate routes.

An update will be sent when the scene is clear.

Today we pause to remember September 11th, 2001 — twenty-four years ago. On that morning, nearly 3,000 lives were lost in the attacks that shook America and touched hearts across the world. Families were changed forever, and yet we also saw incredible courage… first responders running into danger, ordinary people becoming heroes.

And just yesterday, we were reminded again how fragile life is. American conservative activist Charlie Kirk, a close ally of President Trump, was shot and killed at a college event in Utah. Authorities are calling it a political assassination. No matter where you stand on politics, it’s a sobering reminder of the violence in our world and how deeply we all need peace.

As Christians, we turn to the words of Jesus in John 16:33: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Our hope isn’t in governments or headlines — it’s in Christ, who calls us to love one another, to pray for our leaders, and to be peacemakers in a world that desperately needs healing.

May we honour the memory of 9/11, and even these most recent tragedies, by choosing faith over fear, love over hate, and prayer over despair.
