Dear Comrades in DIY methodologies & Sonic Exploration,

This year, Sudbury will be experiencing its first ever Drone Day. This day was initiated by artist Marie LeBlanc Flanagan in the early 21st century.

Dunstan Topp .et.poudre , from la GNO, asked me to assist with organizing this year’s event. As you probably know, I am an experimental sound artist with interests in randomness, chance, improvisation, rhythm and decolonization. Two years ago, I had the privilege and pleasure of attending and performing (Ottawa-based) Drone Day event. It was a day-long sonic event, that had continuous, interruption-free performances from experimental artists from around Canada. It was a deeply moving experience, which continues to inspire me everyday.

Drone Day in Sudbury will be taking place and as part of Knox Fest! It is take place from 12 until 6pm on Saturday May 24th. The format will be fully participatory, with no experience required. There will be stations with synthesizers, microphones and instruments installed around the galerie, amongst exhibition:
Smooshes, Slabs & Slumps.

this is a crunchy one. i’ve been grappling with the notion of certainty in art, music, in capitalism, and i feel that it’s such a stifling energy and idea that sucks all the life out of any creative endeavour.

i believe in the multiplicity of life. i have experienced magic that emerges out of nothingness - out of places that revolve around aimless play and innocence. and whatever nonsensical mystery is birthed in those moments are deeply inspiring and nurturing.
