.
about last night:
Thank you to for inviting to perform at the inaugural Abya Yala Latin American Film Festival! Thank you & for the thinking of me. Thank you for always being so cool.
I presented 4 films, and an improvised sound work with a total duration of about 1 hour. The first 3 films were produced with my partner via our collaborative . These were "Ground", a production, "material spiritual commons" a meditation on the industrial extract machine in the region, "offerings of care" produced during FAAS with & , and "Callao" a new personal short film about my journey to Callao, Peru (where my father was born).
I would like to acknowledge the for my residency back in 2022. I believe it was a critical time that allowed me to make creative, philosophical and political discoveries that have led me here. I briefly played and recorded one of the ocarinas that I made during that residency last night.
Importantly, I would like to thank the entire Latin community and diaspora in Sudbury and beyond who have helped me throughout my life, who have been mirrors for me, who have created some semblance of home, who have helped me understand my heritage. Especially, thank you to la Familia Cano, my entire Peruvian lineage, and of course to my father.
Finally, thank you for my partner for all your support and for the amazing documentation.
Thank you to everyone who made it out last night. Your warm reception and support was very moving.
If you missed my performance, I did record the majority of it, and will be releasing it on my bandcamp page in the near future.
