I popped into Downtown this morning and it was great to see how busy and festive it’s been 🎄

If you’re still looking for a few stocking stuffer ideas, these have been popular:
• Dutch stroopwafels & Mentos candies from the Dutch Shop
• Eco-friendly soaps from Mrs. Greenway
• Jams and fun 3D-printed items from The Nook

A couple of festive notes:
🎅 Santa Claus will be at The Nook today at 2pm if the kiddos haven’t seen him yet this year.
📸 The courtyard beside Harmony Jewellers is all set up for casual Christmas photos — thank you to Harmony Jewellers for adding this cozy vibe every year and helping make our community so special.

Such a lovely time to wander Downtown and support local ✨

(Grimsby businesses feel free to add your stocking stuffer items in the comments below.)

Sharing this good news update from the GBF Community Services page ….

“The 2025 Holiday Smile Cookie campaign was a great success thanks to the generosity of our customers, the Tim Horton’s staff and GBF Volunteers.

This year, the total dollars raised in Grimsby for GBF Community Services was $8,985.50!

The Nicholson Family generously provided $1014.50 to top-up the generous donation to $10, 000.

Thank you to Tim Horton’s and our generous community for supporting GBF’s mission!”

Official Plan Review – Thank You

Thank you to everyone who attended last night’s Official Plan Review and contributed to thoughtful discussions about what makes Grimsby special and how we can preserve those qualities as we grow.

Like many Ontario communities close to Toronto, Grimsby is planning for growth. By 2051, we could see a population of upwards of 51,000 residents. While the Official Plan and associated growth targets are provincially mandated, this process allows the Town to help shape how that growth is accommodated, including where it occurs and how it is supported by infrastructure and community amenities.

The Official Plan is a legally binding document that guides land use, development, transportation, parkland, and community services well into the future. Thank you to our planning team for being available to provide explanations and answer questions.

📄 The Draft Grimsby Official Plan is now available for public review, and feedback can be shared at [email protected].
If you missed yesterday’s session, there will be another opportunity to participate on January 15, 2026. More details to come.

Thank you for staying engaged and helping shape Grimsby’s future.

Town Updates– Hockey Edition 🏒

Hello everyone! I wanted to share a few hockey-related updates from around town:

-🏗️ The Peach King Centre Renovations are progressing well and are wrapping up the final stages throughout December. The grand opening is officially set for January 24, 2026—we’re looking forward to welcoming the community in. 🎉 *More information to follow closer to the date.

-At opening, the facility will officially be known as the Major Refrigeration Peach King Centre. A sincere thank you to Major Refrigeration, a great local business, for their $500,000 naming sponsorship of the exterior over the next 10 years.

-Several other local businesses have also stepped up with a combined $500,000 sponsorship over 10 years for naming rights to rooms inside the community centre. Your support is truly appreciated.

-🧊 Friese Box Update
The Friese box is not open yet. We need a stretch of consistent below-zero temperatures for the ice surface to properly freeze and be maintained. With the recent weather fluctuations, it’s been challenging. I’ll share an update as soon as conditions allow it to open.

-⛸️ Local Business Highlight
I stopped by Front Row Sports, our local hockey equipment specialty store at 15 Main St. West, for a skate sharpening this morning. They currently have skate sharpening cards on sale—$100 for 20 sharpenings, available until December 24th (no expiration). As always, friendly service and a strong appreciation for community support.

Thanks everyone, and I’ll continue to share updates as they come along. 🏒

I had the pleasure of meeting Caitlin — one of the co-owners of Grimsby Books — at our community consultation meeting on Monday night. We got chatting about her shop, and since it’s sometimes missed (tucked just off Main Street), I wanted to share a little extra love today for her and her bestie Taylor, who run this adorable bookstore together. 💛

Grimsby Books is Niagara’s first bookstore dedicated entirely to fantasy and romance, and you can feel the warmth in every inch of the space. It’s cozy, welcoming, and full of fun finds for the book lovers in your life — their “Blind Date With a Book” has been a big hit and makes a perfect stocking stuffer!

With the holidays coming up, consider this your friendly nudge to pop in, shop local, and pick up a few magical little goodies. 🎅 📖🎁

Hello Neighbours 👋

Just sharing a quick update from tonight’s community consultation meeting about the John St. development proposal.

The session included thoughtful questions, helpful feedback, and a very cooperative discussion between the developer team and residents.

The developer reiterated that they’re looking for as much community input as possible as they continue to shape the project. They’ve asked residents to share any additional comments, questions, or concerns to help guide the next steps.

They’re also looking for feedback on rental unit preferences, and have created a short three-minute survey for the community to complete. You can find it on their website.

If you’d like to participate or learn more, please visit: thecooperhaus.ca

I’ll continue to share updates when upcoming meetings are scheduled.

What a night!🎅✨

Had an awesome time in the Santa Claus Parade — Council was lucky enough to follow Santa’s hardworking helpers (our amazing Grimsby Firefighters!) as they collected donations for the GBF all along the route.

Huge shout-out to everyone who gave so generously. ❤️

And yes… it’s always tough following the real celebrity of the night: Sparky the firedog. 🐶🔥 That pup steals the show every single year!

Thanks for bringing the energy, Grimsby — you made the parade magic. 🎄🚒✨

Today, on December 6, we remember a day that changed Canada forever.

On this date in 1989, fourteen women at Montréal’s École Polytechnique were murdered—killed simply because they were women. They were brilliant students, creative thinkers, beloved daughters, sisters, and friends. Their futures were full of promise, and their loss remains a source of deep sorrow for our nation.

But their memory also ignited a movement. Their deaths pulled long-hidden violence out of the shadows and forced us to confront the reality of gender-based violence in our homes, communities, and institutions.

As we honour their lives, we recommit ourselves to building a world where women and girls can live free from fear.

Today, we reaffirm our responsibility to support women by challenging violence, speaking up, and fostering communities where every woman feels safe and valued.
