Gryphonwood Birmans

08/05/2026

As many of you awaiting news on our Birman litters may already know, we ran into a snag this season and haven't had kittens this year. However, I am happy to let you know that one of our dear friends has a six month old blue point female that is available. Please reach out to Ellen Weber (located in Eastern New York) directly to inquire about this beautiful kitten. I have known Ellen for nearly 20 years and her lines run deep in Gryphonwood cats, so you may recognize some similarities in both temperament and appearance.

Someone asked me what happens to our retired breeding and show cats when they are done their careers? How could we 'sell' our friends that we have spent so much time with? These cats are very special to us and parting with them leaves a little hole in our hearts. BUT we (and other responsible breeders) know that it is not in the cats best interest to keep them all. It is specifically because we love them so much that we place them in loving, responsible homes where they will live life as beloved pets. Retirement allows them to enjoy the peace and freedom from becoming bullied as they age as often occurs when an older altered cat lives with intact cats. As they age they are no longer at risk to the latest bug that may be brought home from a cat show. They no longer worry about competition for their favourite spot in the sunny window or that another cat will steal their favourite toy. And most importantly they have the opportunity to have a special one on one relationship with their person.
It is exactly because we love these special cats that we break our own hearts and rehome them. There is nothing that brightens a breeders day more than receiving an update and pictures of a retiree basking in the happiness of their new life.

Gryphonwood kitties do get around ;)
Bruno landed safe and sound in Dubai with the help of https://www.sandypaws.ae/
His owners are very happy with his care during transport and how well the company simplified the international documentation and transport.
Now to try and make a little sister for you to chase around sweet Bruno!

Happy 18th Birthday to one of our retired boys - GC Adorabir Freddie Mac of Gryphonwood! His adoring owners have done a spectacular job caring for him over the years. Freddie was one of my first boys and the 2008 Boysie Award Winner (Best Birman Kitten @ the SCBF show). He passed on many of his good genes and has enjoyed retired living as the king of his own sofa for many years.

Update - Leandro moved to his new forever home today. I am so grateful to Kim for opening her heart to a senior Birman gentleman and look forward to sharing updates as he adjusts to his happy new life.

Our precious Leandro is looking for a new home. Sadly, Leandro's wonderful person received a devastating diagnosis and is not able to return home from the hospital. They reached out to us for help, and of course we immediately agreed to bring him back to Gryphonwood. He came with a little bag of all his toys and blankets and his cat carrier. He misses his previous life with a devoted senior person and unfortunately our own 'Golden Girls' are being 'Mean Girls' to him. So he spends most days alone, cuddling with his blankets that still smell like his beloved person.
Leandro was born in March 2014 in the Netherlands. He came to Canada as a kitten and acheived the title of Grand Champion. He was triple registered with CFA, CCA and ACFA and shown in all associations. Leandro was extensively health, DNA and cardiac tested and fathered several litters of lovely kittens, bringing healthy genetic diversity to our lines and to other breeders who have his babies and grand babies. You can view Leandro & his health testing results on our website. Leandro has a lovely friendly temperament and no bad habits.
I am looking to place him in a quiet adult home for him to live out his golden years. He has loads of love to share with his new person and would be a spectacular companion.
Please contact me by DM or email if you feel you could help our sweet senior boy find his new special person.

No single cat affects the quality of kittens or the future of a cattery more than the stud cat. These cats need to be as close to perfect as possible in all aspects - health, genetics, temperament and conformation to the written Birman standard. Our stud boys enjoy spacious indoor only

We are just thrilled to share that Gryphonwood Willow of Catabella was the highest scoring Birman kitten at the Sacred Cat of Burma show last weekend in Medina, Ohio. She was the Boysie Award winner and 7th highest scoring kitten in the show with a very competative field of lovely kittens. So grateful for my dear friend Mary Richards expert show prep and grooming. We are most honoured that our fellow Birman breeders and exhibitors voted Willow as Exhibitors Choice - that is one of the highest honours a Birman breeder could ask for. Thank you to the judges who found a place in their finals for Willow and to the SCBF club members who pulled together another fantastic show. Willow was the result of several generous Birman breeders sharing wonderful and diverse lines. Mary Myers, Kasey Oser Sellati, Betty Sleep thank you so much for placing your beautiful cats with me.
