Farm & Food Care Ontario

Farm & Food Care Ontario Farm & Food Care Ontario is growing public trust and consumer confidence in farming and food by working collaboratively with Ontario farmers and food partners.

July 2021 update: We have just learned that someone is falsely representing themselves as a FFCO agent & recruiting foreign workers to come to Canada at great personal cost. This is a scam. FFCO does NOT facilitate immigration to Canada or arrange contracts for Temporary Foreign Workers. Farm & Food Care is a coalition of farmers and associated businesses proactively working together with a commit

ment to provide credible information and strengthen sustainable food and farming for the future. We encourage you to interact on our page, however since we unfortunately cannot monitor every conversation, Farm & Food Care expects that users will not post content that falls into the following categories and reserves the right to remove postings that are:

The Greenbelt is more than just green space — it’s home to over 4,000 farms that produce much of Ontario’s fresh, local food.

From the Niagara Peninsula’s tender fruit and grape growers to the Holland Marsh’s vegetable producers, Greenbelt farms are a cornerstone of our food system.
Fun fact: the Greenbelt grows almost 90% of Ontario’s peaches and over half of our fruit acreage!

Supporting local farmers helps keep this landscape — and our plates — full of Ontario-grown goodness.

Did you know there are different ways dairy farmers milk their cows?

Tie-stall Systems: Each cow has their own stall in the barn. The farmer brings the milking machine to their stall to milk. This allows for one-on-one care and makes it easy to check each cow’s health, comfort, and eating habits.

Milking Parlour Systems: The farmer brings the cows from the main barn to the milking parlour. The cows walk themselves into stalls and are milked for 5–7 minutes before returning to the main barn. This method is fast and efficient, and farmers can monitor the health of many cows at once.

Robotic Milking Systems: Cows decide when they want to be milked! They walk into the robot, where they enjoy a treat while being milked. The robot is responsible for cleaning the udder, attaching the milking machine, tracking milk output and cow health. Farmers get real-time data on each cow, helping them monitor the health of the herd.

No matter the method, the goal is the same: healthy cows and high-quality milk. Ontario dairy farmers are always caring for their herd. Ontario has over 3,000 dairy farms, each choosing the milking system that works best for their cows and farm!

Where is the Greenbelt?

The Greenbelt stretches around the Greater Golden Horseshoe, wrapping around cities like Toronto, Hamilton, and Niagara.
It includes iconic landscapes such as the Niagara Escarpment, Oak Ridges Moraine, and Holland Marsh — areas known for their unique mix of rich soils, rare species, and breathtaking scenery.
These connected lands form a protective ring of green that helps manage urban sprawl, keeps nature close to where people live, and maintains Ontario’s agricultural heartland.

What is Ontario’s Greenbelt?

Did you know Ontario’s Greenbelt covers more than 2 million acres of protected land surrounding the Greater Golden Horseshoe — one of the fastest-growing regions in North America?
It was created to keep nature, food, and communities thriving side by side — protecting clean water, supporting farmers, and preserving green space for everyone to enjoy.

It’s one of the largest protected areas of its kind in the world and plays a key role in keeping Ontario healthy and sustainable.

On this Remembrance Day, we honour the heroes who gave everything for our country. We also recognize the farmers who kept our nation fed, working tirelessly on the home front to support communities and the war effort while others fought for our freedom. Their dedication and resilience are part of the legacy we remember today.
