Dunnville resident Gerry Krumhout was just two years old when his family sheltered 4 year old Jenny and her six year old sister Hanna from persecution at the hands of the invading N**i forces occupying the Netherlands at the time.

The pair, separated from their parents who were betrayed and murdered at a concentration camp in Poland, would reunite with the Krumhout family over 60 years later after tracking them down.

It was then that Gerry’s father, Cornelius, was able to hand the two girls something he had held on to for six decades - sealed letters written to them by their father.

For Gerry’s story, and more Remembrance Day coverage, look to this week’s copy of The Press for our special pullout, or visit our website (haldimandpress . com - no spaces), where we have unlocked the digital version for free in honour of our Veterans and all who served and continue to serve our country.

Dunnville resident Lindsay Wilson is behind a campaign to bring HGTV’s popular show ‘Home Town Takeover’ to the community she loves.

That community came together last week to film a video for round 2 of the selection process.

If selected, Dunnville could see a full scale revitalization that includes storefront makeovers, new public spaces, and infrastructure improvements aimed at restoring civic pride and encouraging tourism.

It's been 10 years since the 'Save the Evidence!' campaign was first launched in 2015. The $26 million in funds the effort has raised have been used to convert the former Mohawk Institute Residential School in Brantford into an interpretive historic site designed to educate visitors on the history and horrors of Canada's residential school system and the thousands of children who suffered at the hands of it.

Thousands of people are expected to attend the official unveiling, taking place today, September 30, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

For more, including a look behind the scenes at the restoration process and some words from Roberta Hill, one of the Survivors who took part in the process, visit our website (haldimandpress . com - no spaces).
