This morning at Lake William, Waverley, Nova Scotia. I’m sharing the photo since it evokes some positive emotional responses within me.

Hope.
Gratitude.
Serenity.
Awe.

It may also symbolize a glimmer of light at the end of a very long, very dark tunnel.

It’s a new day. It isn’t yesterday. It isn’t tomorrow. Just accept it for what it is: today.

You possess the opportunity to embrace this day and permit acts of self-care, self-kindness, and self-compassion. You also have the chance to remind someone you love them, thank someone who’s been there for you, reach out to a friend with whom you haven’t spoken in some time.

You may be injured, but you are not forever broken. I have your six… as do several others.

Do something good for yourself and others today. You deserve it. So do they.

I handcrafted this wall hanging for the amazing people with whom I worked at during my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology practicum/clinical. (That’s a genuine Canadian maple leaf as well.)

Since they engage so much with both veterans and active service members - military, first responders, nurses, correctional services, and more - I believed this would not only resonate with such clients, but also convey the authenticity, professionalism, and compassion that’s embraced by every single representative of Landing Strong.

If you are in Nova Scotia and need mental health support, or are a CAF veteran struggling with acquiring some essential life needs, please reach out to Landing Strong. Allow them to provide you with the assistance that was earned by your service and sacrifices.

No s**t! I’ve been saying this on the Papa Tango Sierra Delta podcast from the first episode. It absolutely mystifies me how many civvies are surprised by this, and how more white shirts seem to give zero f***s about it.

The newest season starts airing in January 2026.

Here’s a newsflash: I retired and am heading into the corner with my elbows up and gloves dropped. Game. On.

My name is Larry Peyton and I have been diagnosed with C-PTSD with dissociative symptoms, MDD, and SUD.

The next 10 days mark my final ones as a police officer. On September 25, 2005, with exactly 23.5 years of service, I will be medically retired from the RCMP.

My badge, IDs, keys, uniform, duty belt, intermediary devices, and pistol have already been turned in.

I am also on my last 13 weeks of graduate studies in counselling therapy.

Though this ends an era, it also begins another. January 2026 will see Papa Tango Sierra Delta return to the airwaves with new episodes.

As Bob Dylan said,

For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
The battle outside ragin’
Will soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin’

According to this idiotic post, the difference between toughness & weakness resides in whether or not the sufferer/survivor “complains” about their post-traumatic stress. Is the same true for a combat veteran who lost their legs? Or an incest/rape survivor?

The contemptible projections of ignorance, stigmatization, and masculinity are displayed not only in the first comment on the post, but also by the number of others who, in just one day, liked/loved the statement.

The point I’m trying to make is that the disconnection from reality by those who have not been in “the s**t” or “the trenches” will always be present. But those of us who KNOW… who have BEEN THERE… who STAND BESIDE YOU… who HAVE YOUR SIX… will also always be present.

Embrace self-compassion. Reflect on your resilience. Nurture mindfulness. Remember that those who judge from afar were never near the realities of those who served, sacrificed, survived.
