🌟 Issue 14: Self 🌟

Accepting submissions until December 15th, and releasing on Boxing Day!

What is the relationship between art and self? Art provides an outlet for self-expression, allowing us to share a part of ourselves that might be unseen or unknown to both the viewer and the artist. For the artist, it may help them discover themselves, their emotions, perceptions and realities. We look forward to sharing this window into your world with our viewers!

WA is so excited to receive your submissions. For those that have already submitted their work, you can expect to hear back shortly.

Hana Aurora Wilson

Regardless of the medium, digital or traditional, the one constant throughout all of Hana's artwork has been their love for patterns. Through patterns, Hana is able connect to their heritage by referencing various styles of 和柄 wagara (traditional Japanese fabric patterns) in their work. Using this style, Hana hopes to bring attention to the glorification of minimalist aesthetics, as this trend reflects wider scale issues with Western’s society’s perception of wealth and consumption. To combat this, Hana’s work celebrates beauty in detail and diversity, especially in nature.

Hana Wilson is Q***r Asian-Canadian student, currently studying at Etobicoke school of the Arts, with plans to pursue further education in the arts.

Introducing the whimsical artwork of Stéphanie, known as STEFOUCHAT! 🎨✨ With a background in graphic design, Stéphanie discovered her true passion for illustration during her studies. Her organic and colorful style, developed through experimentation with various techniques, reflects her love for cats, plants, and the world around her.

In her unique illustrations, Stéphanie presents her playful perception of reality, often creating whimsical and unrealistic scenes. By playing with proportions and simplifying elements, she invites viewers into a vibrant and imaginative world.

Reflecting on her art, Stéphanie beautifully expresses, "As a very emotional person, I tend to cry often... Sometimes I feel like a watering can that can't stop pouring water." She embraces her emotions, finding beauty in the vulnerability they bring and recognizing their role in fostering genuine connections.

Title of Piece: Silence
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas
Size: 6" x 6"

Rhonda is a Mohawk/Ukrainian artist living in rural Ontario. The varied local wildlife, including coyotes, foxes, deer, rabbits and multitudes of birds and birds of prey, surround her and provide her with an endless source of inspiration. A personal and cultural reverence for nature is the root of all she creates as she pours her soul into her work.

Rhonda’s exquisitely detailed work is beautifully nuanced and realistic. She loves to recreate textures found in nature; whether the grain of weathered boards, feathers, fur, or the leathery wrinkles of an elephant’s skin she strives to highlight the beauty of nature. She is experimental in her approach and will utilize unorthodox tools to acquire the desired effect.

La línea el cuerpo (Jorge Tejeda),

Published in issue 11, Tejeda shares “These pieces show the inner emotion of men, placed in between an image of strength and high sensitivity. The contrast between these two realities sometimes produces movement and other times stillness. Awareness, openness, a view of unlimited possibilities, all of this expressed through the language of the male body, faceless, leaving a big space to fill with interpretation.”
