Beef Lasagna
Here's a classic beef lasagna recipe for you:
Ingredients
For the Meat Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
For the Ricotta Mixture:
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
For the Lasagna:
- 12 lasagna noodles
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
2. Cook the Meat Sauce:
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add the onion and garlic, and sauté until softened.
- Add the ground beef and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt, and pepper.
- Simmer the sauce for 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Prepare the Ricotta Mixture:
- In a bowl, mix together the ricotta cheese, egg, Parmesan cheese, and dried parsley.
4. Cook the Noodles:
- Cook the lasagna noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
5. Assemble the Lasagna:
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce on the bottom of a 9x13 inch baking dish.
- Place a layer of lasagna noodles over the sauce.
- Spread 1/3 of the ricotta mixture over the noodles.
- Sprinkle 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese over the ricotta mixture.
- Repeat the layers (sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella) twice more, ending with a final layer of sauce and mozzarella cheese.
6. Bake:
- Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 25 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
7. Rest and Serve:
- Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before cutting into squares and serving.
