That’s how many porcupine quills we removed from Fern’s face and body since she came into our care.

Porcupine quills aren't straight – they have multiple, tiny barbs, like fishhooks. Every time Fern moved, the quills would lodge deeper into her skin. And each move brought piercing pain. 💔

It’s been a race against time to find and remove them all. The longer it takes to remove quills, the more chances for them to break, for small pieces to work through the skin, and reach internal organs.

She has had multiple hospital visits to remove the hundreds of quills. Fern’s road to recovery doesn’t stop at 852. Veterinarians continue to look for more. The last visit was just last week. 🥺

Not even this has stopped her from being the sweetest doggo. Fern is social, loves pets and cuddles.
