RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is seeking information from the public as officers investigate an arson and attempted arson in Timberlea.

RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment is seeking information from the public as officers investigate an arson and attempted arson in Timberlea.

On September 5, at approximately 2:20 a.m., RCMP, fire services and EHS responded to a report that a Molotov cocktail had been thrown at a home in the 400 block of Marketway Ln. Upon arrival, the residence was fully engulfed in flames. Neighbouring properties sustained minor damage. No injuries were reported.

On September 7, at approximately 4:10 a.m., officers were again called to the 400 block of Marketway Ln. following a report of a suspicious person. Investigators learned that a man had been seen exiting a residence with a cloth that was lit on fire. The man dropped the cloth and fled the area in a vehicle. A jug containing an accelerant had been left in the yard. The incident is being investigated as an attempted arson.

The investigations are ongoing.

Officers are seeking information related to a small blue vehicle seen leaving the area on September 5. They’re also looking to identify a man wearing black pants and a brown jacket who was seen in a grey Honda Civic on September 7. Investigators are particularly interested in obtaining doorbell camera or dashcam footage from the Marketway Ln. area between 1:30 a.m. and 5 a.m. on September 5 and September 7.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP Halifax Regional Detachment at 902-490-5020. To remain anonymous, contact Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers toll-free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), submit a secure web tip at www.crimestoppers.ns.ca, or use the P3 Tips app.
