So pleased to finally, finally have this book out! Meet Captain Joseph Darby: a Nova Scotian born at the turn of the 19th century to a seafaring family. His father ran the delivery ship between the new Sable Island Humane Establishment and the mainland, and soon Darby found himself wrapped up in the important and deadly task of navigating and saving lives around the Graveyard of the Atlantic (as Sable Island was known).

Darby spent most of his life working on or for the Island, and became superintendent in 1830. His tenure was long, complex, and murky - he received medals for heroism from distant countries, but also accusations of abuse and cruelty. This book takes a look at the textual evidence of Darby's life for the first time ever, unravelling some of the mysteries of a man who spent his life in willful isolation...

This is a non-fiction book filled with journal entries, letters, and scraps of archival material for you to enjoy as we piece together the story of Darby's life and the events that unfolded on Sable Island during the 1800s.

If you didn't catch it on my story, these two cute mugs were featured in a very nice and also huge article all about ! You probably can't read it in this picture but I basically just talked about how great my mom is the whole time.

I'm happy that we are wrapped up for the season. It was a great one, all things considered. But I'm really excited to spend this winter working on projects (and a couple client pieces too). I recently got it in my head that I want to be featured in more things, win some awards, get notoriety etc 😂 not sure why. Guess I'm feeling competitive. But I also have some huge things coming out in 2021 (long anticipated books, many secret projects) and I just want people to see them and enjoy them, yknow?

I wonder what I'll be thinking 1 year from now. What will I have done? I hope it's something awesome.

It's here!! The cover reveal for my upcoming novel, Camilliad! I am sooo unbelievably excited to show you guys what I've created to package this book that took me 7 years to complete.

Camilliad is the story of a woman raised in the wilderness of pre-Roman Italy. After Camilla's exiled father is asked to return to his old throne, she steps up to return to Privernum instead, hoping to learn the truth about her mother's origins. What she discovers is bigger than a family, bigger than a city, and bigger than a nation - for Fate and war are sailing for Italy from the shores of ruined Troy.

Now, that's an unofficial synopsis, but I wanted to give you an idea of what the book is about! I wrote this novel in 2013 while doing my Masters in Classics, and the Aeneid (a Latin epic) was a special interest of mine. Camilla is a very minor and mysterious character in that book and I was inspired to create a story for her. This book is written with strong reference to the classic epic literary style, and writes a new chapter in the saga of the Iliad/Odyssey/Aeneid group.

This is a literary fiction novel with a mythological twist. It features a cast of primarily female characters, which is an inversion of the epic genre that I'm really happy about. It's also a THICC book at 130k+ words. I'm really, reeeeally proud of it!

I'll be announcing a release date and preorders in the next couple of weeks. Can't wait to share this one with you. So to start the hype train, here are a bunch of mockups of my cover! I am really happy with how it turned out and I'll share some of the close-up details in it with you guys soon!

📣 FUN ANNOUNCEMENT! I've planned a whole series of creative writing workshops for you all!

I know we're all stuck at home, and it can feel hard to be creative. I have built a series of fun activity-based live workshops that make it easy to tap into your creative energy while also working with a small group of nice people!

There are two types of workshops listed here: journaling workshops and technical workshops. The technical ones are open to teens as well as adults, so if you know a teenager who loves creative writing and is stuck at home, this could be a great option for them.

All workshops are $10. I want this to be super accessible for folks. If you want to join in but are feeling financial strain right now, DM me and I will help!

This is where I work. This is where you see most of my IG stories being filmed too - except you usually see the opposite direction (which is much less lovely I'm afraid)!

Its so important to me to have a great working environment, and it's no surprise I'm sure that my plants are a big part of that. I've got my little watering can and mist bottle here at the ready!

Whenever I have a problem to think about, or an idea I need to work through, I close the laptop and tend to the plants. Even just misting the succulent babies can be the little break I need to think differently.

However, I can admit this desk is slightly out of control 😂 but I'm not exactly worried about that these days!

Oh, and on days that aren't snowing and raining like today, I can see the ocean out my window. It's just a sliver, but it counts!

This 5 lesson course will take you through my exact method for making paperback journals. It's a ton of fun and there are no limits to how creative you can get!

This course takes you through the process of creating a concept, making prototype templates, creating an interior file, creating a cover file, and picking a printer or distributor that works for you. 📔 I'll show you how to design your journal using both paid (Adobe) and free (Canva) software, so you can give it a go no matter your preference.

The hardest part of journal making (in my opinion) was figuring out how to get the right dimensions, margins, and technical specs, as well as finding a printing option that worked for me! I've included all of this in the course so you can learn from my experience (and my mistakes 😂). Yay!

Books are magic!

I filmed a little book video that I'll be editing and sharing shortly. I really want to show you guys what I think is so special about book design - especially older books!

One of the awesome things about modern tech is that printing books is incredibly easy. And affordable, too! But the more complex you want the book to be, the more expensive.

Print on demand or no-minimum printers have really changed the game. They have, quite literally, revolutionized the book world.

But there are still some things they can't do. This old book has a gilded cover, different papers inside, and gold brushed edges. It's really lovely. And you can't get these kind of details without a big budget - even today!

I think all books are good books, really. And I'm excited by all the possibilities there are for us as creative entrepreneurs to make cool things.

Plus, I gotta say, holding a book you wrote in your own hands is kind of an amazing feeling!
