Canadian Independent Bookstore Day is on Saturday, April 25! This is an annual day for book lovers of every stripe to come together to celebrate and support indie bookstores across Canada.

As an independent Canadian publisher, indie bookstores are not just our clients, but our partners, friends and colleagues. They are a huge part of what makes Canadian publishing thrive. We are lucky enough to work with dozens of indie bookstores from coast to coast, and we have seen firsthand how dedicated they are to supporting the Canadian book industry and building a community around it.

With the recent cuts to publishing in Nova Scotia, this year we are even more grateful than usual to indie bookstores. When the news was announced they rallied and fought alongside us, spread the message and advocated for Nova Scotian books. They have been indispensable allies in this fight, which is not over despite the budget passing.

So this Saturday (and every other day that you can!) go support one of Canada's wonderful indie bookstores!

Broadside is an example of the kind of book that benefits from the Publishers Assistance Fund. With the provincial government's proposed budget cuts, it's Nova Scotian stories like these that are at risk!

Spring is in the air! (In this case, "Spring" means rain ☔)

That means it's time to introduce you to the books we'll be releasing next month! You'll find lots of nature titles from the prolific Jeffrey C. Domm, illustrator of the best-selling Nova Scotia Birds and East Coast Fossils. You'll find eco-friendly gardens, local ingredient cookbooks, mushrooms, iconic landscapes and much more. This catalogue is a celebration of nature and the wildlife that calls it home, from Nova Scotia to Ontario.

But, on a serious note, if the provincial budget goes through as it is, our future catalogues may look a lot smaller than this. This budget doesn't just harm authors and artists, it harms Nova Scotians who want to enjoy the art that they create. So if you want to keep seeing books like these on your shelves from us and other NS publishers, keep fighting to !
