A Reflection on Service, Healing, and Community Leadership
By Prisca Kabeleka β Aspiring Councilor, Mtendere Ward 34, Munali Constituency
Two years ago, during a workshop organised by the National Day of Prayer under the Office of the Vice President, Her Honour WK Mutale Nalumango, I was honoured to receive a Certificate in National Values and Principles for Church Leaders. That recognition humbled me deeply. It reminded me that leadership must always be guided by strong values, integrity, and a genuine heart for people.
As I continue on this journey and prepare for the responsibilities that may come with serving Mtendere Ward 34, I hold these principles close. My background as clergy has taught me to listen, to walk with people in difficult seasons, and to serve with compassion.
Our community is facing difficult challenges, especially among our young people and families. We see growing struggles with alcohol and drug addiction, as well as painful cases of defilement, r**e, and gender-based violence affecting both men and women. These issues cannot be addressed by one person or one institution alone.
They require unity.
They require collaboration.
They require all of us.
My desire is to work closely with churches, schools, NGOs, and community members to help create safe spaces, strengthen support systems, and provide pathways to healing, protection, and recovery. Every young person, every woman, and every man deserves dignity, safety, and opportunity.
Mtendere is my home, and its people are in my heart. My commitment is to leadership shaped by faith, empathy, and a sincere desire to contribute positively to our community.
