The Hammer

The Hammer The HAMMER Magazine: Reunion Page The magazine was launched during the Gulf War in 1991, and began as a "dare". Our magazine was unique. We were young.

2011 marked the 20th anniversary of the launch of Hamilton's HAMMER Magazine, the brainchild of writer Brenda Whitehall and musician Lily Sazz. The mission of The HAMMER was to celebrate and promote the talented and eclectic musicians, writers, artists, photographers, cartoonists, poets, comedians and actors, who hailed from Hamilton, Ontario, also known as the "Steel City". The HAMMER became ever

yone's magazine - and we proudly boasted about the accomplishments of all who graced the pages - from Grammy-winning superstars to bands fresh out of the garage. We had no business sense. But had refreshing ideas and a passion to promote local talent. We didn't take ourselves too seriously (we even listed our psychic consultants in the masthead). Most of all, we had a lot of fun creating an arts and entertainment magazine, distributed thoughout the Greater Hamilton Area, for three years. It was a "pilot project" - or a launching pad - for many of us who moved on to bigger and better things. And the magazine expanded from profiling HAMMER talents to all Canadian talents. Songs were written about The HAMMER. Celebrities were randomly photographed reading issues of The HAMMER. Other publications wrote about The HAMMER. And Hamilton's nickname "HAMMER" expanded from local musician circles to becoming a popular, household word - not just in Ontario, but across all of Canada. We invite you to post information about your events, promote gigs, public book readings, CD releases, fundraisers, art openings - whatever strikes your fancy. We look forward to connecting with new talents and reconnecting with old friends. Enjoy The HAMMER...

Big thanks to Roots Music Canada for this exclusive debut of my new video, “Goodnight, Sweetheart”! Filmed live off the floor at the The Mule Spinner in Hamilton, Ontario, (Glen Marshall audio, Nathan Mccrory video), and accompanied on guitar by my dear friend and duo partner Don Oakie. I think that piano (formerly owned by Daniel Lanois) is the third musician in the room. Talk about juju in that instrument. Hope you enjoy the song, even though it’s sad. ❤️

🥳📣🎬 I'm excited to announce the world premiere screening of my friend Bobo Whitehall (Whitehall Entertainment)'s latest documentary: Beyond the Podium: Celebrating Canadian Women Champions!

The screening takes place at the beautiful Westdale Theatre on Friday, August 16th at 7pm.

This not to be missed documentary has already won two film festival awards and provides indepth interviews with 15 of Canada's top women winter Olympian athletes.

Brenda delves deep with her doc, discussing the challenges and triumphs these women have had and exploring topics such as racism, body image, safe sport, and mental health.

There is a Hamilton connection as two of the segments were filmed at Stewart Memorial Church and Dundurn Castle. I was happy to be involved in those segments as a photographer.

Hope to see you out on August 16th! Buy your tickets soon before the evening is sold out!

Cootes Paradise specializes in original roots based music that is bluesy, funky, and filled with soul. Their music is an infectious, groove-based sound with a mix of super cool covers and originals that easily stand up to the rest of the repertoire.
