Today our Cathedral community came together for our Opening Mass, celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Official Blessing and Opening of our building on October 1, 1995.

We were honoured to welcome many special guests, including Bishop Crosby, Fr. Jarek, HWCDSB Director of Education David Hansen, Chairperson John Valvasori, Trustee Josie Angelini, superintendents (past and present), and former Cathedral administrators.

A highlight of the celebration was welcoming back Richard Appiah, the 1995–1996 Student Council President, who joined Mr. Susi (Vice-President, 95/96) and Ms. Chernets (Senior Rep, 95/96) along with their 2025–2026 counterparts - Ben Dittel, Harumy Alarcon Sanchez, and Angelina Bahr - to lead the Prayers of the Faithful.

Our guests were then invited to stay for lunch and were the first customers in the newly-revamped cafeteria!

It was a beautiful celebration of faith, history, and gratitude for the building we’ve proudly called home for the past 30 years.

We're looking forward to our next event, the 30@30 Open House and Pub Night on Saturday, November 22nd!

Exactly 30 years ago today, Cathedral High School on Wentworth Street North was Opened and Blessed by Bishop Tonnos.

The photos here are a mix of images from the Official Opening and Blessing on October 1st, 1995 as well as photos of school construction from earlier that same year.

In his address to the audience at the Blessing, then Principal Peter Narduzzi said, “Cathedral is now poised to enter the Platinum Age. It has the personnel, facilities, state of the art equipment and programs to continue to be one of the best schools in Ontario. However, Cathedral must never forget its tradition and mission. Cathedral High School must continue to be a beacon of hope to the poor, the challenged, the minorities and the marginalized.”

To help make our 30 Years @ 30 Wentworth celebration possible, we are seeking support in the form of monetary donations to offset the costs of food, beverages, décor, and event rentals. We also welcome gifts in kind that would contribute to making this event a success.

Any funds raised that exceed the cost of the event will be donated directly back to the school to support our students- specifically through the Cathedral Outreach Program, which provides vital assistance to those in need within our immediate school community.

Donations can be made by cheque made payable to Cathedral High School or made directly on SchoolCashOnline at https://hwcdsb.schoolcashonline.com/Fee/Details/4426/67/false/true

Please choose Cathedral Catholic Secondary School as the fund destination. Under “Message to School Board”, please write “30@30 donation”. A donation receipt will be emailed to you upon completion of your cart checkout.

If you have any questions or would like to speak about donation opportunities, please DM this account or contact the co-chairs via email.
