It’s with mixed emotions that we want to tell everyone about Sew Hungry happening this Saturday, May 9. We say mixed emotions because we know that long standing food truck vendors at this yearly event have chosen not to participate this year due to the significant increase in price which makes it difficult for vendors to make money without increasing prices for customers.

While we support these vendors in their decision not to attend the festival, we are also concerned about the chatter we see online regarding boycotting the event entirely. Ottawa St doesn’t have the volume of festivals we see in the downtown core. In fact, when events happen downtown businesses like ours on this end of the city take a hit. Sew Hungry is our only street festival to draw the crowd that it does. I’m sure we aren’t the only small business on the street that is planning on the revenue (and incurred costs in preparation) generated by this event.

So, please, we ask that you still attend the event and support the small businesses here on Ottawa St. We also hope that as a community we find a way to work with the BIA to make the event accessible for local food truck vendors once again.
