Well folks! To say that yesterday was amazing would be a huge understatement!!! Suzanne Levesque Jason Lyle and I have been working so hard to make sure everything was perfect for Martin Sexton’s first visit to the Bird Dog. Even dealing with all the US tax requirements was so stressful. But, the worry that he might be hard to deal with, and our wee theatre and crew couldn’t provide him what he needed, stressed us to the max!
But when he walked into the theatre smiling and shaking hands with every one of us, we started to feel better. Within 10 minutes we knew he was one of us and we enjoyed every second with him.
During his sound check, he sounded just amazing, but he also obviously just loved what he was doing and it showed in his face. He also knew exactly how to ask Jason for what he wanted sound wise and it made that part go bery smoothly.
Two of our good friends, Rick Lecler and Dorothy Wong, drove up from Calgary as Rick is a Martin Sexton super fan. They arrived at the perfect time, just when Martin and I were unloading his Toyota Landcruiser and and he was able to help us with that. Speaking of super fans, when the concert started, I was standing beside Jason mixing sound, and his Apple watch heart rate alarm went off because he was so excited..
Martin played to a packed house and all those people (and us too) hung off of every song he sang and every word he spoke! I have never heard our theatre sound better, and Martin was stunning!!! Jason’s mixing was absolutely perfect!!
Everyone was totally blown away!

What could be better… We met and listened to one of our hero’s. The folks that came out were just thrilled! AND…we made a new friend!!! He even wants to come back to our wee funky old theatre that turn 100 years old next year!!! Huge thanks to everyone that came out and Elizabeth Cabanaw for the great photos!!! We heard through our friend and audio wizard Jason Lyle, that Martin’s show was amazing last night and the he was one of the nicest people that they’ve ever had at the theatre! Whew, that’s so great to hear as we were pretty nervous having our first big name American artist here!!!

Hey there, folks... Just a little update from the Bird Dog and Over The Moon-Acoustic Roots Duo. We had a great weekend playing some shows out west and down south... A big bonus was that we were able to visit some dear Edmonton friends (you know who you are:) at the same time... How nice was that supper!!! Holy Jumpin'!!
Anyway, while we were at our show at The Nick in Calgary on Saturday, Suzanne said she saw that Vic CLose from Fish Creek Concerts was there. I saw him too, but didn't believe it was him...Turns out it was!
I had to go up and say "Vic, you look strangely more manly today...What happened?" It was way more than the rugged flannel shirt (that could have come from the "Craig Bignell" collection) he was wearing! He told us that he's been walking about a thousand miles or so a day, and he feels amazing! I'm telling you, we just could not believe the difference...Way to go, Vic!!!
Then he went on to say that he wished we'd start some more renovations on the theatre because he likes to read about them on Facebook, and enjoys watching our back breaking pain:from the comfort and safety of his home:) 🙂! Now since he was also talking about having Over The Moon coming back to Fish Creek for our huge "Christmas on the Range Show" in 2026, we felt like we had better get ripping things apart here... So we did...
We've finally started on the second floor of the theatre. Just in time for Martin Sexton to use it as his green room...Yikes, that's in three days!!! You should enjoy this, Vic..Especially if we don't get it finished:)
By the way, we've only got about 12 or so tickets left for Martin's show!!! Also, we are very excited that we'll be announcing another two shows on Thursday night after Martin's show... For those of you who are on our mailing list, you already know:) Can't believe how those tickets are already selling!

Hey there, folks... Well, we had a great night with Dave McCann on Saturday night and now we're getting ready for our show with Martin Sexton "Abbey Road Show"
It's less than two weeks away already!!! (October 2nd) Tickets are selling like crazy, so you'd better hurry. Suzanne Levesque and I still can't believe he's actually coming to our theatre!!

Well folks.... Here's the BIG news! Suzanne, Jason and I, just couldn't be more excited about Martin Sexton coming by the Bird Dog as part of his "Abbey Road Show" tour of western Canada on October 2nd!!!! Can you believe it!!! All three of us are huge fans of Martin's and the Beatles (especially their Abbey Road album) so this will be an amazing night!
Martin will play the whole Abbey Road album in it's entirety in one set, and then a bunch of his own amazing songs in the second. Haha, we think seeing him perform these songs in our warm sounding, vintage Alberta theatre will be extra special!
