We are an Inuit-owned publishing company that aims to promote and preserve the stories, knowledge and talent of northern Canada. Our mandate is to promote research in Inuit mythology and the traditional Inuit knowledge of Nunavummiut (residents of Nunavut). Our authors, storytellers and artists bring this knowledge to life in a way that is accessible to readers in both northern and southern Canada. As the first independent publishing company in Nunavut, we hope to bring Arctic stories and wisdom to the world.

We're so excited that the CBC Kids Reads 2026 Longlist features The Fawn, written by Etua Snowball and illustrated by Shuggie Crossland!

After a chance encounter with a herd of caribou, a fawn follows a young boy back to his cabin. The boy and fawn spend the summer together exploring the northern landscape, picking berries, and swimming in the lake. Then one day the boy and fawn get an unexpected visitor, and the boy must learn how to say goodbye to his furry friend.

On a hill outside the community, it is said that ghostly dog growls can be heard. The Inuttitut name for the hill, Qalinguluk, means “a place where you can sometimes hear dogs growling.” In this book, readers will learn about the origin of these mysterious dogs and how they came to be associated with this hill.

Watercolour illustrations by long-time Sanikiluaq resident Margaret Lawrence give the book an authentic feeling of this distinctive place.
