Nature therapy at its absolute finest.

I spent the day with my buddy Ben ( ) on the water in the kayaks chasing pike on one of the Frontenac Provincial Park perimeter lakes yesterday, and it's exactly what I needed.

I have spent so much time over the last couple of years fishing on the bigger, less scenic lakes that I had completely forgotten what an absolute gem we have in Kingston's back yard.

The weather was on point (except for a sudden downpour that lasted about 10 minutes), the scenery was simply jaw dropping, the fishing was pretty darn good, and the time spent with a friend I haven't fished with in ages was priceless.

We went into it with the goal of each catching a 30" Pike, and while we didn't hit that mark, both of us each caught a 29.50" Gator, along with a few hammer handles, some out of season bass and a plethora of other pretty panfish.

All in all, it was just what I needed for a reset after a pretty lengthy period of high stress.

(I also got to do some great testing of the new Road Toad topwater frog. I'm SUPER excited to get this thing into production, its a banger!)

Its easy to say "do what makes you happy". It can be one of the hardest things to do, though. Sometimes life and the world gets in the way.

Just do your best. That's all anyone can do. Do your best to do the things that make you happy, so you can keep doing your best at everything else too.

Because you can't pour from an empty cup.

The deal is that as long as she's standing in the boat, she can swear. This was the first trip of the season.. and you can tell she's been bottling it up all winter lol

If you're into frog fishing, you need to be paying attention to this!

More testing needed...

I can't see it getting in from the through-hull gaskets, but it is possible that the strip seals i made didn't work. I do have an idea of somewhere else that it could be intruding, though, but I'll need to do some further investigating with the hose to find out exactly where its coming from.

If you watched the youtube video I posted last week about the 3d printed gaskets I designed for my TacticalPro 128, im putting them to the test today lol

I really do freaking love this kayak. I wouldn't even consider taking my big boat out in this weather, but I feel very comfortable in this barge of a kayak.

Went for a short foray out onto the Bay of Quinte yesterday afternoon with the snowmobile.

I didnt have much time, but the weather was beautiful so I didnt bother setting up the hut at all, just played it run and gun style, which is something I had a hard time doing before getting my new-to-me snowmobile. So I just piddled around drilling holes in different spots seeing what I could see. I had some fun playing with a few schools of Perch, and while I left empty handed, I had a lot of larger marks that could have been nothing else but big Walleye and/or Pike.

All in all, it wad a much needed break from the baitshop preparing for the at the starting next week! If you're coming out, I'll be in booth 425 near the .jim.mclaughlin Kids Casting Pool in the
Section!

I might head out again later this morning for a couple more hours before I get back into the grind!

Took the new machine out last night to target some evening Walleye, and Burbot for the first time. I missed the window for Walleye though, I spent a lot of time messing around with how to rig up my gear on the snowmobile, and I spent even more time stopping to check ice thickness often on the way.

Even though there was a solid 9-10 inches ever where I checked, I was still nervous for my first time out on the ice with the machine specially on a lake I'm not too familiar with. But as we get closer to mid season ice, I know I'll get more and more used to it!

What an enormous difference it makes being able to tow out my stuff with the press of a thumb lever! I cant wait to really get this beast dialed in!

Midlife crisis is almost complete. Introducing the Sled Chariot!

I drove out to Smith Falls yesterday to pick up this beauty of a trailer from Paul at

It was a bit strange basically buying it over the phone without ever having seen it outside of pictures from the website, but Paul made the process super simple, very convenient and just overall easy. He was personable, knowledgable and worked with me about some relatively inexpensive add-ons tailered for my needs from this trailer.

Their finance guy, Dave, was a breeze to deal with and he was an absolute wizard with getting everything hammered out in no time flat.

If you're looking for a new trailer of any kind, The Trailer Company in Smith Falls should be top of your list to check first, you won't regret it!

Now we just need a good dumping of snow!
